Walking In Obedience Despite Fear

1 Samuel 16:2-5

16:2- And Samuel said, How can I go? if Saul hear it, he will kill me. And the LORD said, Take an heifer with thee, and say, I am come to sacrifice to the LORD.
1.Samuel fears Saul’s wrath, but God provides a safe, sacrificial context for the trip. Samuel was fearful of what Saul may do knowing that he was rejected by God as the king and that a new king was going to be anointed.
2.How many times do we fear what will happen to us when we either step out by faith to perform a task for God? I know in my own life I have been hesitant to either be a witness for the Lord or do something for Him in fear of what people might think. We need to be able to step out by faith knowing that the Lord is going to provide us with the knowledge and hedge of protection around us to be able to handle the tasks that we have at hand.
16:3-4- And call Jesse to the sacrifice, and I will shew thee what thou shalt do: and thou shalt anoint unto me him whom I name unto thee. And Samuel did that which the LORD spake, and came to Bethlehem. And the elders of the town trembled at his coming, and said, Comest thou peaceably?
1.The sacrifice provided a legitimate, public reason for Samuel to gather the leading families of Bethlehem, including Jesse and his sons, without raising Saul’s suspicions. The elders trembled at Samuel’s coming suggesting they feared he was arriving to bring news of God’s judgment. Bethlehem was an obscure town, and a surprise visit from the nation’s spiritual leader was a significant event.
2. Samuel came to the town of Bethlehem in peace, but the people feared his coming. I wonder how many of us fear or tremble in the thought of the Lord’s return? Are we preparing for the Lord’s return or will he find us unprepared at his return? Matthew 24:44 Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh. Let us all be fulfilling the call that the Lord has given us to do after we got saved with the use of our money, time and talents to further the kingdom for Him.
16:5- “And he said, Peaceably: I am come to sacrifice unto the LORD: sanctify yourselves, and come with me to the sacrifice. And he sanctified Jesse and his sons, and called them to the sacrifice.”
1.Samuel immediately calms their fears when he said Peaceably I am come to sacrifice unto the Lord, sanctify yourselves and come with me to the sacrifice.
2.When we are in fear from something in our lives and we go to the Lord in prayer he gives us a peace that passes all understanding.
3.Samuel shows us how we need to be obedient to what God asks us to do in every aspect of our lives even when it seems impossible the Lord will make a way.
Reflection on this passage:
As we see Samuel in fear at the beginning of this passage with the thought of Saul killing him we realize that he is similar to how we are when we fear man more than God. When given an opportunity from God do we fear what man, family or friends may say or do we trust in God with providing the necessary means to do what he has asked us to do? Samuel eventually realizes that the Lord has provided the sacrifice for the trip to anoint the next king, just like he provided the ultimate sacrifice to us with His son the Lord Jesus Christ to die in our place for our sins.

Love in Christ, Pastor Andrew

📖Bible Verse: Psalm 121:1-2
I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth.

✝️Devotional: Life can often feel like a massive roller coaster. For those with a fear of heights, the instinct is to stare straight down at the drop, gripped by the dizzying distance from the ground. But when we fixate on the "fall," we lose our perspective and our peace. When life’s twists and turns start to pull you down, remember to shift your gaze and talk to God. We are called to look upward, not downward at our circumstances. When we focus only on the heights and the hurdles, we miss the chance to experience God’s peace and the joy of His presence. The Creator of the universe is not just a distant observer; He is right there in the seat beside you, ready to sustain you through every peak and valley. By looking up to Him, we stop being victims of the ride and start becoming worshippers of the One who controls the tracks. Today, don't let the "drop" distract you—look up and find your help in the Lord.

🙏Prayer: Heavenly Father, when the "roller coaster" of life feels overwhelming and I am tempted to look down in fear, help me instead to lift my eyes to You. I trust that my help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth, who stays by my side through every peak and valley. Replace my anxiety with a spirit of worship as I fix my gaze on Your strength today.
In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Dear Church Family,

Just a devotional thought from my study today.

Devotional: Moving Forward from Broken Things
Scripture Focus:

"And the LORD said unto Samuel, How long wilt thou mourn for Saul, seeing I have rejected him from reigning over Israel? fill thine horn with oil, and go, I will send thee to Jesse the Bethlehemite: for I have provided me a king among his sons." — 1 Samuel 16:1 (KJV)
Reflection:
The Lord has lead me into continuing on with our study in 1 Samuel. In 1 Samuel 15 we discussed how Saul’s disobedience lead him into making up excuses and pushing blame on others leading God to turn His back on him. Samuel was heartbroken. He had invested time, prayer, and deep affection into Saul, Israel’s first king. The Lord says to Samuel how long wilt thou mourn for Saul?
1. It is time to stop looking back: God had moved on from Saul, and it was time for Samuel to move on too. Sometimes we keep trying to repair something God has already deemed finished. I have beat myself up about my past events for so many years after being saved and it is like taking a cut that is trying to heal and opening it up again. This doesn’t allow the cut to heal just like bringing up past failures in our own lives we need to learn to forgive ourselves and move on.
2. It is time to refill your horn: God told Samuel to "fill thine horn with oil." Oil symbolizes the Holy Spirit and anointing. God is saying, "Prepare yourself for the new thing I am about to do."We need to accept that God is in control of everything in our lives and prepares us for the next journey that he has for us. God is in control of our future and is ready to anoint us if we are willing to accept the call from Him and be obedient in what he asks us to do. In writing this devotional I am brought to tears just thinking about how patient and kind that the Lord is even with our present and past failures he is willing to forgive us of our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
3. God is a Provider: God had not lost control of the nation. He said, "I have provided me a king." Your disappointment does not frustrate God’s plan.God has a new "David" waiting in your future—a new blessing, a new direction, a new joy—but you cannot receive it while still holding onto the ruins of the past. God provides the means of forgiveness through His son Jesus Christ all we have to do is accept Him as our personal Savior.
Conclusion:
We need to let go of past disappointments that we are still "mourning." Let’s surrender it to God today and leave it at the foot of the cross knowing that we have a new life through His son Jesus Christ.

Please remember to pray for the prayer requests that are in our church bulletin and for everyone to stay safe. I love and miss you all.

Update on Pastor Blase – God Is Faithful!

Dear Friends and Family,

We want to thank you for your prayers and support. Pastor Blase had to undergo emergency surgery last Friday. We are grateful to share that the surgery was a success! He is currently recovering and awaiting release from the hospital. We are standing in faith for his full and speedy recovery.

As we continue to trust God through this journey, we hold on to these powerful truths:

LIVE – “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.” – Romans 8:28 (KJV)

FIGHT – “Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called...” – 1 Timothy 6:12 (KJV)

WIN – “But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” – 1 Corinthians 15:57 (KJV)

Please continue to lift up Pastor Blase in prayer as he recovers. Also, please continue to pray for the pastor's wife as she faithfully stands by his side and cares for him. Your continued support means so much to us.

Update: Pastor Blase—Still Preaching, Still Praising! We are so grateful to share that Pastor Blase is still going strong! After facing surgeries and radiation, he continues to stand firm in his calling—pastoring faithfully and preaching the Gospel just as he has for the past 30 years. His strength, perseverance, and unwavering faith have been nothing short of incredible. One song that’s been resonating deeply with us during this journey is “Hard Fought Hallelujah” by Brandon Lake. The lyrics speak so powerfully to the kind of praise that comes through trial—the kind Pastor Blase knows well. Every sermon he delivers now carries even more weight, more heart, and more victory behind it. Thank you to everyone who has supported, prayed, and given so far. Your kindness is part of this hard-fought hallelujah. Let’s keep lifting him up together! 🙏
