Painful Adjudtments~ Pastor Luther Sims Jr.
Genesis 32:24-28
24 So Jacob was left alone, and a man wrestled with him till daybreak. 25 When the man saw that he could not overpower him, he touched the socket of Jacobâs hip so that his hip was wrenched as he wrestled with the man. 26 Then the man said, âLet me go, for it is daybreak.â
But Jacob replied, âI will not let you go unless you bless me.â
27 The man asked him, âWhat is your name?â
âJacob,â he answered.
28 Then the man said, âYour name will no longer be Jacob, but Israel,[a] because you have struggled with God and with humans and have overcome.â
If you break a bone many times it will need put back into place. Itâs a painful process, but needed. The pain is necessary because what is out of alignment needs put back into proper position.
God puts us through seasons of adjustments and it will stretch you to a capacity you have never been before. Godâs adjustments will challenge our limitations and understanding. As people we want elevation not correction. We want blessings but we donât want transformation. You canât be the person God called you to be and still be the person you were before God met you.
Jacob arrived at the Brook with baggage. Baggage of being deceitful, he had a broken family and broken relationships. He had fear of his brother Esau and the consequences of his past decisions. Being broken is Godâs process of repairing.
God promise to give Abraham a nation, a blessing, a covenant and legacy. The promise had delays, obstacles and contradictions. God promised Abraham a child yet Sara was still baron. God donât speak to us in the now, he speaks to us in the next. Often Godâs promises come in packages of a painful process, but he loves you and still wants to use you even in your mess ups. We need to know that a cracked vase can still hold water. We need to confront our past and not let it hold us prisoner. Understand that consequences will always follow our actions.
Jacob was alone with no family, friends or servants. God uses isolation in order to bring about elevation. When God puts you by yourself, youâre getting ready to have an encounter. God will never talk in your ear when youâre listening to everybody else.
Exodus 14:13
âFear ye not. Stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord,
God was getting ready to reveal himself to Jacob. God wants the old man to die and become new. Jacob and Israel canât live at the same time. Jacob had to be transformed to become Israel. He went from being a fraud to having favor.
In closing, remember the fight and struggle is about your future. Gods grace is sufficient.
