This past Saturday we had another Macroinvertebrate study in the stream near The Refuge. It was another successful Saturday spending time in God's incredible creation, testing the health of the water. While out there, we got to observe a cool water snake!

The purpose of this post was to highlight the work that was done this past Saturday and how fun it is to be out in nature, but the other purpose is to share about how The Refuge Church received a grant from EGLE to continue our macroinvertebrate studies & maintenance. It is a great honor that we are the only church to receive a grant from EGLE and are so thankful for their help so that we can continue this work in creation care. We are stewards of this great creation gift that God gave us and this is just one way that we can continue to care for it.

Sunday, May 17 we will be having our monthly Fellowship Lunch (this month will be a Hamburger & Hot Dog Grill out) and along with that, we will be doing Pinewood Derby Car and Lego Car races! So dust out your old Pinewood Derby car OR create a new one and join us for the race.

This year, we will be having a Pinewood Derby Car Work night at church. If you would like some help working on your race car, you can come to church Monday night, May 11 from 6:00 PM - 8:30 PM and we will have a few people there that can help. The Pinewood Derby Car kits AND Lego car kits will be available at church.

On Sunday, May 10, there will be a sign up sheet towards the entrance to help us know how many people to plan on!

This really is an event for all ages, it is not just for the kids. We would love for adults to join in the fun too. So join us, May 17 shortly after the worship service for a fun afternoon of Fellowship, Food & Races.

While some of our typical programs are done for the summer (Ladies & Mens Bible Study, Creation Station), we still have a lot of fun upcoming Events for you to put on your calendar!

➡ This was shared yesterday, but on Saturday we will be doing another macroinvertebrate study in the creek. Please RSVP to the office at [email protected] if you plan on helping so that we have enough supplies / lunch.

➡ On May 17 we will be doing the Pinewood Derby Car Races after church again, which we are so excited about. BUT this year we are having a Pinewood Derby car making night at church to help anyone who needs it. The car kits will be available at church and you are welcome to join Bob & Kevin to have them help. They will be in the cadet room in the basement from 6:00 PM - 8:30 PM. The sign up sheet for the races will be at church on Sunday (May 10) so we hope you will sign up!

➡ The Annual Refuge Campout is coming up too! We will be camping out on the lawn near church again this year. Even if you don't plan on staying over night, we would love to have you join us Friday evening for a night of fellowship, food around the fire, and games. You can arrive at 5:00 PM to set up camp! And we will be staying through Saturday morning May 16.

➡ Our next Fellowship Lunch will be a Cook Out and we will also be doing the Pinewood Derby Car Races / Lego car races during this time. If you have an old car from growing up that you still have, we would encourage you to take it along. These races are for everyone! Even if you don't plan on racing, this will be a normal fellowship lunch so please join us and cheer on the racers.

➡ The next Diaper Bank will be held Wednesday May 20 from 9:00 AM - 10:00 AM. Volunteers are still needed to help pass diapers out.

➡ Reminder - Wild Wonder Vacation Bible School will be held June 8 through 12 from 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM for kids ages Kindergarten - 5th grade. We have limited spaces, so please register by reaching out to Kathy at [email protected]

MACROINVERTEBRATE STUDY - Saturday, May 9
➡Last weekend was so much fun, we are going to do it again!

This past weekend we got into the creek and sorted through all sorts of different bugs. While on an exploration looking for the different macroinvertebrates in the creek, they also found fish eggs with eyes in them as well as a white sucker and a creek chub.

If you would like to join us this weekend to see what different things we might come across, we would love to have you. will be meeting everyone Saturday morning at 9:00 AM in the parking of The Refuge Church, near the creek. If you plan on joining, we just ask that you RSVP by contacting Gerry OR you can let the office know at [email protected]. We just ask that you RSVP so we can make sure there are enough supplies for everyone AND enough lunch.

It is such an honor to be able to care for creation in this way and to be able to explore all of the tiny creatures that help keep our rivers & streams healthy.

CREATION CARE CAMP VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL will be held the week of June 8 through 12 from 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM for kids going into Kindergarten through 5th grade.
This is our FIFTH year doing this style of vacation bible school and we are so excited to be continuing the use of our curriculum from A Rocha.
Each year the kids learn so much about the beauty and wonder of God's magnificent creation. The kids get split into different groups and will go through different stations each day, with each spot doing a different activity to learn about that days topic. There will also be snack time, a fun time of worship, and there will be time to do the zip line.

Spaces ARE limited, so we ask that you register by reaching out to Kathy in the office at [email protected]. Please let her know the name / names of the children who will be attending.

If you have questions about what this vacation bible school experience is all about, please don't hesitate to ask!
