Have you heard about the new Crawford County Special Needs Registry that helps first responders know if there is a person of any age in your household who may need a little extra care in an emergency? Pick up a pamphlet and a window cling at Benson Memorial Library for free!

This registry is voluntary and can be for any physical, mental, or behavioral situation or disability that may hinder someone from quickly leaving their home during an emergency. Knowing this info ahead of time allows responders to help you or someone you love more efficiently and safely. The information is protected with federal health privacy regulations. Next week will be our informational session with Garrett Funeral Home, Crawford County Hospice and The Law Offices of Schellart Joyce, who will be talking about essential steps for end-of-life planning. We understand that discussions about end-of-life planning can be difficult, emotional, and overwhelming. However, it is a conversation that is important to have while we are still here. This event will take place on February 3rd from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM, and is open to all at no cost. We invite you to join us for this helpful and educational discussion.

Welcome

Welcome to our prayer journey. This year’s theme, “Who I Am in Christ” was selected to complement the Lenten sermon series here, the “I Am” statements of Jesus. It is not necessary to have heard the sermons to understand the prayer journey. However, if have not heard the sermons but would like to, they can be found on the church page. It is recommended that you read the devotionals in the given order but it is not required. This is designed as an individual experience with God. It takes around thirty minutes to just read all nine of the devotionals. We encourage you take your time with each devotional. Really think about it and how it applies to your personal relationship with Jesus. The sanctuary is available if you wish to spend extra time in prayer and meditation. Please, take your time and enjoy the journey.

I Am Loved

How many commercials for dating apps have you seen today? How many rom-coms have you watched? We live in a world that is obsessed with finding love.
See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him.
I John 3: 1
We, as Christians do not need to go hunting for love. Love has been poured out upon us. God has drenched us with His great love. If we do not begin with the knowledge that we are loved by God it is hard to find who we are. Our relationship with God needs to center on the simple fact that He loves us with an undying, all-encompassing love.
1 Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good.
His love endures forever.
2 Give thanks to the God of gods.
His love endures forever.
3 Give thanks to the Lord of lords:
His love endures forever.
Psalm 136: 1 - 3
The seven “I Am” statements made by Jesus that are recorded in the Gospel of John give examples of how the lavish and enduring Love of God for us is manifested in Christ. As you move forward on this prayer journey the devotionals are focused on how those statements of Christ impact us.
Because Jesus is The Light of the World, I am unafraid.
Because Jesus is The Gate for Sheep, I am known.
Because Jesus is The Good Shepherd, I am pursued.
Because Jesus is The Bread of Life, I am satisfied.
Because Jesus is The Way, the Truth, and the Life, I am transformed.
Because Jesus is The True Vine, I am grateful.
Because Jesus is The Resurrection and the Life, I am alive.
Underlying those statements is the fact that Jesus is The Son of God. As the Son of God, He loves us with the same lavish, enduring love.
16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
John 3: 16

Because Jesus is the Son of God, I am LOVED!

God of Love, look kindly upon me, as I grow in faith. I know that I am not alone on this journey as your Spirit encompasses me. Help me take time to listen and reflect on the words of scripture and the devotionals. May I be powerfully moved by You. Help me to not be in such a hurry that I miss the riches you have in store for me. Your Spirit lives deep within me, but sometimes I forget that. So I ask for Your Spirit to continue to shape me and help me to remain open to Your presence and power. Amen.

I Am Unafraid

Did you have a nightlight as a child? Do you leave a light on when you leave the house just in case? Why does everything seem scarier in the dark?
9 Jesus answered, “Are there not twelve hours in the day? If anyone walks in the day, he does not stumble, because he sees the light of this world. 10 But if one walks in the night, he stumbles, because the light is not in him.”
John 11: 9 - 10
My grandmother told me as a child she was very afraid of the dark. Her father appeased her fear by always having the lamp burning at night. Living in a rural area with no light other than the moon, grandma would search out that lamp light as she walked home. Looking to that lamp not only kept her on the right path, it gave her great comfort to know her father had lit it, lovingly hanging it for her to see, and would be there waiting for her.
Your word is a lamp for my feet,
a light on my path.
Psalm 119: 105
Jesus warned us about walking in darkness because we are likely to stumble. He came as the Light of the World to illuminate our path. He drives back the darkness of this world, so we can find our way. The light does not dim when the darkness intensifies. Darkness can never drive out the light. We live in a world where the spiritual darkness is intensifying. That is extremely terrifying. However, the spiritual light of Jesus will never dim in the darkness of this world. His light will drive back the darkness.
The more we focus on the Jesus the Light, the less the darkness will scare us. Keeping our focus on Jesus drives back the darkness and leads us to our eternal home.
12 Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.”
John 8: 12

Because Jesus is the Light of the World, I am UNAFRAID!

Creator God, You calmed the chaos with the words “Let there be light.” I invite Your presence now into the dark chaos and confusion of my life. You have always shown the way from darkness to light. As I struggle in my current darkness calm my fears and help me to see the light. Grant me the grace to overcome fear and keep my focus on Your Light in this darkness. Amen.
