Well, in Ephesians 6:14-18, Paul tells us not only how to put on the armor of God but also how we should use it to fight against the devil.

As it has been said, "An Unguarded Strength is a Double Weakness."

David was known as a man of meekness, patience, and great faith. He trusted God and chose not to take matters into his own hands. But David allowed his strengths to become unguarded, he took them for granted, and they quickly turn into a double weakness, as he was riddled with anger and revenge.
