YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD
Let’s start out by talking about the OMNI words for God. Omni is a Latin word meaning ALL.
OMNIPRESENT – God is everywhere at all times. Matthew 18:20 says For where two or three have gathered together in My name, I am there in their midst. Jeremiah 23:23 says Am I a God who is near and not a God far off?
OMNIPOTENT – God is all powerful and has power over everything. Job 37:23 says The Almighty is beyond our reach and exalted in power; in His just and great righteousness, he does not oppress. Isaiah 44:24 says This is what the Lord say – your Redeemer, who formed you in the womb: I am the Lord, the Maker of all things, who stretches out the heavens, who spreads out the earth by myself.
OMNISCIENT – God is all knowing with the past, present, and future. 1 John 3:20 says in whatever our heart condemns us; for God is greater than our heart and knows all things. Matthew 10:30 says But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. That is almost inconceivable to us as humans that God knows how many hairs are on our head. But FAITH in the word tells us that He does.
OMNIBENEVOLENT – God possesses perfect and unlimited goodness. John 3:16 says For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. Proverbs 15:3 says The eyes of the Lord are in every place, keeping watch on the evil and the good.
So now that we’ve covered all the OMNI words and what their meanings are let’s keep them in mind and talk about your relationship with God. God is constantly wanting us to have a relationship with Him. God is there for us, God is all loving, God can move mountains for us, and God is good ALL the time. God knows you and even how many hairs you have on your head. I often think about how much I shed and how I’m constantly picking the fallen hairs off my clothes if God is deducting those. LOL. And yes, I do believe God also has a sense of humor at times. If not, when I asked for protection He would not have sent the hairiest dog on the planet into my backyard to watch over me and my house. I could just hear Him say…. You asked for you, so here you go. But that’s a whole different story.
God knows you completely and fully and yet He still loves you unconditionally. You don’t even have any secret thoughts when you have a relationship with God. That in itself can be intimidating if you let it. But God doesn’t intend for it to be. He wants you to feel His love and devotion to you.
The human heart is extremely deceitful. You base your relationships on fear most times. Fear never sustains, meaning strengthens or supports you physically or mentally. You often wonder what if I do this or that? Will he/she still love me or even like me? What if I wear this because I like it but it’s not stylish, will he/she/they think I’m a dork and not want to be seen with me? What if I do something that isn’t popular, will I be rejected?
Your relationship with God is based totally from love and NEVER, EVER based on fear. When you accepted Jesus Christ as your Savior God adopted you as His child. It is a blessing to be loved by God. We all have different types of relationships with our friends and family. We love them dearly. But think about the love you have for your children. Most parents would die for their kids. That’s exactly what God did for us on the cross. We always want our relationship with our children reciprocated. We want them to love us as much as we love them. God is no different.
So my question for you today is what are you doing to build your relationship with God? What are you doing to reciprocate the love He has for you as His son or daughter? Because God is omnipotent He could have very well made us all Christians when we were born. So why didn’t He? He wants us to come to Him, build our relationship with Him because we want to. He wants us to have faith in Him and lean on Him during hard times and heartache. God allows us to go through storms for a divine purpose. He allows trials and tribulations as part of the process of sanctification, being set apart for God’s purpose and to live in His glory. He allows it so that we develop a godly character and persevere in His name and to give Him the glory that He so deserves. This is all a part of worshiping Him and loving Him like He loves us. All a part of having a loving relationship with Him as a father does with any of his children.
I challenge you today to make a change in your life to better the relationship you have with your Heavenly Father. If you put forth the tremendous effort it sometimes takes to have a relationship with someone here on earth why would you not put forth just as much, if not more, effort into a relationship that you will have for eternity?
