The richness of the Old Testament in light of the cross never ceases to wow me!
Studying the Prophet Ezekiel, I’m loving the revelation Holy Spirit is bringing and its present day application.
For instance, in ch 8 God shows Ezekiel the hidden sin (idolatry) of the religious leaders—exposing the natural sin behavior. He also reveals the spiritual condition that promotes the sin behavior, because there is always an underlying spiritual condition.
Their abhorrent idolatry is rooted to their excusing sin because they believed God couldn’t see it and that He had forsaken them. When, in reality, they had forsaken God.
Still today, when people believe God has forsaken them, it promotes the same rationalization and permission of sin, anything they desire, because if God doesn’t exist, or His word isn’t truth, then no one need care about Him, or His word.
Can you see in culture how this same lie is being fueled today by
the false teachings of religious leaders who sanatize the word of God and thereby diminish His holiness, and by those who ignore Holy Spirit and don’t shepherd their flocks into deep intimacy with the Lord? These types of religious leaders are perpetuating the same sin (idolatry) as Ezekiel observed because ignoring Gods holiness always invites justification of selfishness.
Jesus has a solution for us. A pathway to holy living, in alignment with the Father, and for His glory.
>>> Confess, repent, put Jesus on the throne of your life, take down your altars to idols.
Admitting we have idols is humbling. Don’t let pride keep you from putting Jesus above the things your flesh desires.
Ezekiel 8
1 John 5:20-21 ESV
“And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know him who is true; and we are in him who is true, in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life. Little children, keep yourselves from idols.”
