Monday Night Bible Class - Prof. Dykstra

Monday Night Bible Class - Prof. Dykstra Monday Night Bible Class lead by Professor Dykstra.

10/10/2021

Greetings, all. After a l-o-o-o-n-g hiatus due to Covid 19, the Monday Night Class will come back to life, D.V. However, a major change is happening. As most of you know, the Lord called me to become the pastor of Byron Center PRC. One result is that I get to teach catechism on Monday nights. I inquired of the other professors who might be able and willing to take up this valuable class. I am delighted to say that Prof. Cory Griess responded affirmatively. The consistory of Hope PRC and Prof. Griess are in agreement on the class in Hope PRC. He is eager to take up the class, and I am thankful to God for providing this excellent leader. Watch your bulletins for more information. The class is scheduled to start October 25, D.V.
So this is farewell from me. The class was, hands down, the best Bible study with which I was ever involved. I thank you all for the exciting years we had digging deep into God's Word.
In the love of Christ,
Prof. Dykstra

Greetings, all!
I have been negligent in sending any information to those who in the past attended the class or who visit this site. I assumed that you knew that the class cannot meet at this time. Hope PRC and the other area PRCs are not allowing Bible study groups to meet in the church buildings under the current restrictions in the state of Michigan. When this changes, I will send out a notice. I hope that you will continue to study the Bible individually and/or in small groups as you are able. It is a trying time, and believers need to encourage each other to faithful study of the Bible.
Our prayer is that God, in Whose hand is the heart of the king, will turn the ruler's hearts to remove the current restrictions which will allow us to meet again.
Yours in Christ,
Prof. Dykstra

Greetings, all!
In light of the confusion of government pronouncements on meetings, and catechism classes being canceled, I am canceling the class for tonight, March 16. I hope we can start it up again, but we will see what happens.
The Lord rules. Clearly Jesus is coming, and this disease and the world-confusion is part of His coming for His church.

Greetings, all.
We are planning to meet on Monday (March 16) after three weeks off. We will pick up our discussion of I Timothy 6:9-11. The slides will remind us what was discussed last time, and I post also old slides of questions on these verses that we have not yet faced. I hope to see you Monday. Obviously, if you are not well, stay home. Otherwise, you are welcome to attend.

Greetings, all!
Monday (Feb. 17) will be our last class for three weeks. We are headed to the Philippines and then to Singapore.
Monday we plan to continue our excellent discussion on I Timothy 6:9-11 -- one wanting to be rich. Obviously this is an important topic for people living in affluent America with the very strong temptation for wanting to be rich. Below are slides that summarize the discussion of last week, and give the same questions for these verses that we have not yet covered.
I hope to see you there.

Greetings, all.
I am happy to report that I am feeling quite recovered and very eager to hold the class again. Our discussion will be on I Timothy 6:9-11. One would be hard pressed to find a passage more needed for believers living in America in 2020.
Sides of the last meeting, and questions for discussion are below. Hope to see you there!

Greetings, all!
I regret to inform you that I must cancel class for Monday (Feb. 3). The Lord laid me low with some form of Influenza this past week. I am much recovered, except for the lingering cough. That makes it impossible to lead a class, and I think all would be rather uncomfortable being there with me coughing. If the Lord wills, we will resume Feb. 10. Please pass the word along.
Yours in Christ,
Prof. Dykstra

Greetings from Hull Iowa!
The announcement might not have gotten into the bulletins, but as I announced last week, the class will not meet on Monday Feb. 27. We are planning to meet the following week, D.V.

Greetings, all.
We completed our discussion of verses 3-5 which condemns those who bring a different teaching from the apostle than what he brought as the way of godliness in verses 1-2. Much of this chapter is devoted to the proper view and way of living related to money. That starts in the work place (1-2). A form of covetousness emerges in those who come with a new and different teaching (vss. 3-5), where these teachers put on a show of piety for their own gain, financial or prestige. These are often (always?) found in the church. They are proud and understand nothing, They have corrupt minds and are deprived of truth; all the while presenting themselves as important teachers.
The inspired apostle continues by contrasting the false piety of these would-be teachers with true godliness, linked with contentment. Much for all of us to learn in the remainder of the chapter, especially in the affluent culture in which we live in America.
Slides below summarize the discussion from last week, and give questions for discussion for Monday.
Also, note, we will have class, D.V., January 20, but not the following Monday, January 27.
Hope to see you Monday.

Greetings, all,
Last week the discussion was on I Timothy 6:3, which is a warning against not heeding the teaching of verses 1 & 2. The Apostle reminds them that the way of godliness which he set forth in those verses is in harmony with the teaching of "our Lord Jesus Christ," and it carries His authority. Those who teach otherwise are condemned in no uncertain terms in verses 4 & 5, to which we turn in the next class.
The discussion of last Monday and questions for discussion for the coming class are below.
Advanced notice: The class will not meet on Monday, January 27. Another preaching trip to Iowa is the reason.
Hope to see you Monday (13th).
