Greetings, all.
We completed our discussion of verses 3-5 which condemns those who bring a different teaching from the apostle than what he brought as the way of godliness in verses 1-2. Much of this chapter is devoted to the proper view and way of living related to money. That starts in the work place (1-2). A form of covetousness emerges in those who come with a new and different teaching (vss. 3-5), where these teachers put on a show of piety for their own gain, financial or prestige. These are often (always?) found in the church. They are proud and understand nothing, They have corrupt minds and are deprived of truth; all the while presenting themselves as important teachers.
The inspired apostle continues by contrasting the false piety of these would-be teachers with true godliness, linked with contentment. Much for all of us to learn in the remainder of the chapter, especially in the affluent culture in which we live in America.
Slides below summarize the discussion from last week, and give questions for discussion for Monday.
Also, note, we will have class, D.V., January 20, but not the following Monday, January 27.
Hope to see you Monday.
