"technology in and of itself is not a solution to humanity’s problems, just as it is not inherently evil. In practice, however, technology is never neutral, because it takes on the characteristics of those who devise, finance, regulate and use it. Therefore, the primary choice is not between a “yes” or “no” to technology, but rather between constructing Babel or rebuilding Jerusalem; between a power that claims to dominate the heavens and a people who work together in the presence of God to rebuild the walls of fraternal coexistence." (Magnifica Humanitas 8)

Pope Leo has released his first encyclical, "Magnifica Humanitas: On safeguarding the human person in the time of artificial intelligence." To read the encyclical and to learn more about the encyclical, visit: https://grdiocese.org/pope-leo-xiv-releases-first-encyclical/

Following the news of the shooting at the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner, Archbishop Paul S. Coakley, president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) offered the following statement:

“We are grateful the lives of the President, those who protect him, and everyone in attendance last night were spared from serious harm. Let us all pray for our elected leaders and public officials that they may receive God’s blessings. Because human life is a precious gift, there is no room for violence of any kind in our society.”

During Lent, it's easy to dwell on the ways that we hurt Jesus. Even Peter, one of Jesus' closest friends, abandons him in his darkest hours. But Jesus knew this would happen - and he certainly knows the struggles of being human. Peter did not shrink into the background of the Gospels; instead he became the "Rock of the Church."

Peter's journey reminds us not to let our imperfection weigh us down - but instead to focus on becoming who God made us to be!
