We are excited to officially welcome Kate Nordling to our office staff as our administrative assistant! She is temporarily filling in for the summer months while church leadership evaluates alignment of responsibilities across our administrative team.

Kate holds a B.A. in Communication from Taylor University and brings extensive administrative experience spanning nearly two decades β€” from her start in a church office at age 17 to roles in Development and Marketing to her current work as a small business owner. She has been volunteering in the church office since 2024. Kate and her family have officially been members at Sherman Street Church for one month, but have been part of the congregation since 2020.

This week, we welcome Isaac DeBoer as our new seminary intern! Isaac holds an undergraduate degree from Calvin College and is currently pursuing chaplaincy at Western Theological Seminary. He brings a rich background having previously worked as a teacher and as a resident director at Hope College.

Isaac will be joining us for the summer, working 30 hours per week. He and his spouse Anna are familiar faces at Sherman Street β€” they attended for several years between 2017 and 2023 β€” and this summer they're excited to introduce their one-year-old daughter, Ardella, to the congregation for the first time.

Free mulch is here! 🌱

A huge thank you to Good Earth Tree Care for donating ~10 yards of raw wood chips for the Sherman Street community! Good Earth is a local West Michigan tree care company on a mission to help restore the connection between people and the urban canopy β€” and this gift is a perfect example of how they carry that out.

The wood chips are available behind the church on Sherman Street, free to anyone who needs them.

First come, first served. Come grab some while it lasts!

Pentecost is the birthday of the Church β€” come dressed for the occasion!
The Spirit showed up in fire and wind and spoke to each in their own language.

πŸ”΄ Wear flame colors β€” red, orange, or yellow
🌍 Or wear clothing from your own cultural heritage

The same Spirit that swept through that first gathering is still at work among us β€” breaking barriers, renewing the Church, moving in the world.

Come, Holy Spirit, breathe your life into us.
