Sherman Street Church

Sherman Street Church Sherman Street Church is an urban church located in the Baxter neighborhood of Grand Rapids, Michigan. Our congregation was established in 1907.

Worship services are held every Sunday morning. Services start at 9:30am during the summer months, and return to a 10:30am start time after Labor Day weekend. Nursery for infants and toddlers is provided during the services.

🌱 Creation Season is Almost Here! 🌱
Every year from September 1 (the World Day of Prayer for Creation) through October 4 (The Feast of St. Francis of Assisi) we take this time to recommit ourselves to caring for God's creation. This year is no exception — and our Creation Care team has been busy planning ways for our community to celebrate, learn, and take action together.

Beginning in September, we'll be hosting a variety of events for all ages and interests. Mark your calendars and plan to join us — we'd love to celebrate this season with you!

Want to learn more about the Reformed Church in America? We've got you covered.

➕️ Join us on August 23 after the morning worship service (around 11:30am) for a Q&A session the RCA with representatives from RCA Classis Grand Rapids North! You'll have the opportunity to learn more, and ask questions. Use the worship service link in profile to join via zoom!

➕️ Then, Homeroom returns September 13! This fall, we're getting to know the RCA from the inside out — history, missions, polity, creeds (including the Belhar Confession), and a closer look at churches in the North Grand Rapids RCA Classis. More details and the full schedule coming soon!

Over the last year, Sherman Street Church has been moving toward affiliation with the RCA denomination. Last March the congregation voted to enter the process of joining the RCA. Our Fun Nights this summer brought a drum circle, a bingo night, a camping night, and walking tacos — so many great memories with our Baxter Neighborhood family! We love this annual tradition of connecting with our neighbors, and we can't wait to do it all again.

The Feeding America Mobile Food Pantry is back on Saturday, August 22!

The Mobile Food Pantry delivers a variety of fresh fruits, vegetables, dairy products and baked goods to people in need of food at no cost.

Volunteers are welcome and needed! Show up at 12:15pm to help with set up before food distribution opens 1:00pm.

Join us on August 30 for a full day of Church in Action!

After the service, head outside for our annual Ministry Fair! Come learn about everything going on at Sherman Street. Walk through the tables, learn about the Sherman Street Community, sign up to participate/volunteer and grab a treat on your way out!

Then, at 7:00pm, we’ll gather in the Sanctuary for our annual Congregational Meeting to approve the 2026-27 Ministry Plans and Budget for the year. Please join us for this rich day of community building.

We're so grateful to Plaster Creek and their youth Green Team for all their work on the native gardens at Sherman Street!

We had two amazing workdays, planting and weeding in the native garden areas on the church grounds. Dave Warners and the Plaster Creek Green Team led the work and several Shermanites showed up to help as well. Take a look around the church grounds - it's looking amazing!
