Do you ever feel ambivalent about fasting? As we begin one of the four great Fasts of the Church Year on August 1st - the Dormition Fast (Aug 1-14) - the wise words of Bishop Irenei of London are an encouragement to approach this period as one of renewal.

St George Brotherhood met for "Theology on Tap" last night for fellowship and discussion, with Dn Andrew leading a reflection on "Orthodoxy and America." Thanks to all who came out!

The next parish Theology on Tap is Tuesday August 18 at 7pm at Kusterer Brauhaus.

August is around the corner...we have lots going on at St George. Some significant feasts and events include:

+The Great Feast of Holy Transfiguration (Aug 6) is being offered the evening of Aug 5 by anticipation, in Grant Pavilion at Millenium Park with the other Orthodox parishes in GR.

+The first half of the month is the Dormition Fast - a Paraklesis will be offered every weeknight during the Fast at the local Orthodox parishes in GR.

+The Great Feast of Holy Dormition (Aug 15) will begin with festal services at St George and then our annual parish pilgrimage to Holy Dormition Monastery at Rives Junction for picnic lunch and 2:30pm Holy Unction service. Come and visit this spiritual oasis in the middle of the Michigan countryside!

+Our annual parish picnic is Sunday August 16 at Douglas Walker Park. 11am Divine Liturgy in the pavilion followed by food and games.
