"Mrs. Hunter, I like this house, don't change anything! When i get grown, I'm going to buy it!" These were the words of a 9 year old Journei.
When I met Ms. Journei, she was in need of a tutor...that was over 5 years ago! She was just as nervous as mom & dad with the new stranger. Mom/dad would wait in the office during sessions. Around tge 2nd visit, we were locked in..she turned the corner & told mom, "you can go home!" Lol, we've been sharing homemade soup, collard greens & cornbread, porkchops, & yams every since! I quickly learned she was a southern bell at heart & loves a good meal! Journi would have a rough day, would come to the house in tears, and we would always pause before a session, I would grant her time to unpack the woes of her day, feed her real good, jump into our session, and then call the parents & say "we're gonna need more time". I'm sure they were sick of me lolol!
WHAT I LEARNED ABOUT MYSELF: Journei taught me that life can be so very weighted, taking time to unpack is not 'getting off schedule' or deviating from the plan. It is simply being smart enough to know that self care is mentally, physically, & emotionally necessary, and should not be considered "pampering". I've learned to flex in this life..and in this ever-changing world, WE MUST! So thank you Diamond Journei for showing me that although you were the student, because of you, I was also in session!
