If anyone considers himself religious and yet does not keep a tight rein on his tongue, he deceives himself and his religion is worthless.
-- James 1:26

An Undeserved Gift
But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
- Romans 5:8
The amazing truth of Christmas is that, in spite of our sins, God sent His Son to save us. In that tiny manger in Bethlehem, He gave us an undeserved gift.

Why We Celebrate Christmas

Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel, which is translated, "God with us." - Matthew 1:23

The event of the Incarnation is the reason for the Christmas season. Christmas is the opportunity to worship God, to bow down and pay homage to Him for humbling Himself and appearing in human form (see Philippians 2:6–;9). That stands as the true mystery of the Incarnation—and the reason we celebrate Christmas.

And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.

Whatever You Do . . .
In Him also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestined according to the purpose of Him who works all things according to the counsel of His will, that we who first trusted in Christ should be to the praise of His glory.
—Ephesians 1:11-12

Living for pleasure never will bring pleasure, but living for God will bring pleasure as a side effect—not by seeking it, but by seeking Him. The Bible tells us that in His presence there is fullness of joy, and at His right hand are pleasures forevermore (see Psalm 16:11).

We need to remember that we live for the glory of God. The apostle Paul wrote to the believers at Corinth, "Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God" (1 Corinthians 10:31).

If I can't do a certain thing for the glory of God, then I shouldn't be doing it. I should be able to write "Hallowed be His name" over any pursuit I have in life. If I can't say that of what I am doing, then I should not be doing that thing.

Can you write that over your marriage right now? Hallowed be His name. Can you write it over your career and business ethics? Hallowed be His name. Can you write it over what you fill your leisure time with? Hallowed be His name.

It doesn't matter what your vocation is. If you are a builder, then build for the glory of God. If you are a mother, then be one for the glory of God. If you are a musician, then play for the glory of God. Whatever you do, do it for the glory of God. That is why you are here on this earth. And if you live for God's glory, then you will know God's pleasure.

Life is preparation for eternity. We were made by God and for God. And He wants us to practice on earth what we will do in eternity.

Are you living for God's glory? Or, are you living for your own?

What Gets You Out of the Bed in the Morning?
"One thing I have desired of the Lord, that will I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord, and to inquire in His temple"
—Psalm 27:4

David wrote, "One thing I have desired of the Lord, that will I seek. . .." He was saying that one thing that really excited him was spending time in the presence of God.

Mary knew this one thing, too, when Jesus came to visit her and her sister Martha in the little village of Bethany. She sat down at His feet, absolutely riveted by everything He had to say.

Martha, a hardworking woman, wanted to impress the Lord with the fine meal she was preparing. Who wouldn't, if you had a guest like Jesus? Can you imagine Jesus showing up at your house? You would want to offer Him your best, right? You wouldn't give Him a microwave dinner or reheated food from last night. You would want to prepare a special meal.

As Martha was working away, she undoubtedly kept looking for Mary. Where is Mary? I can't believe she's not in here. Finally in frustration, she came out—probably with her hands on her hips—and said, "Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Therefore tell her to help me."

Jesus replied, "Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things. But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her" (Luke 10:41–;42).

Mary figured out one thing, and that was the importance of sitting at Jesus' feet. What is your "one thing"? What gets you out of bed in the morning? What keeps you going, even through heartaches and trials and disappointments?

In Philippians 3:13–;14, the apostle Paul said: "But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus" (NIV).

Paul said, "But one thing I do." He didn't say, "Twelve things I dabble at." In other words, Paul's life had a strong focus that helped him prioritize everything else.

Rejoicing on Our Way

Now when they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught Philip away, so that the eu**ch saw him no more; and he went on his way rejoicing. - Acts 8:39
And so it is for everyone who comes to faith in Christ: we go on our way, rejoicing.
Sorry it took so long today to those who read my posts daily!

For out of much affliction and anguish of heart I wrote to you, with many tears, not that you should be grieved, but that you might know the love which I have so abundantly for you. - 2 Corinthians 2:4

Right now, there is a lost world around us. People are going down, and we have room in our lifeboat. Do we care enough to go and pull them on board? Do we care enough to do something for them? Or will we say, "They should have gotten into the boat when there was time"?

Wanted: Disciples,
"Then Jesus said to His disciples, 'If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.' " - Matthew 16:24
So what does it mean to be a disciple? It simply means that you take your plans, your goals, and your aspirations and place them at the feet of Jesus. It simply means saying, "Not my will, but Yours be done."
