Fly With Me

Shortly after graduating from college - long years ago - I took a job that required me to travel about three weekends of each month. Over the next two years I put in 50-75,000 miles a year in air travel. I don’t recall having any fear of flying, although I did get nauseous a couple of times over some bumpy "puddle-hopper" flights through the mountains.

A number of years later, after coming to the Lord, I was listening to tent evangelist R. W. Shambach on his radio program tell of a near mid-flight disaster that was narrowly avoided in a plane he was in outside Chicago. When asked if that made him "afraid to fly," Brother Shambach readily replied, "Absolutely not; in fact, if you want to fly on a safe airplane, just fly with me!"

That statement exploded on the inside of me. I claimed it for myself, because I knew where Brother Shambach was coming from. He had hold of the love of God, the love that "casts out fear."

Over the years I've made that same statement to a number of people_"come fly with me if you want to get on a guaranteed safe airplane."

But Chaplain," some say, "you're just flat cocky and presumptuous." Not really. I just believe God's Word and His love for me. In fact, I'll take it a step further: If Jesus tarries, I refuse to leave this life via sickness, disease or accident. I refuse to allow fear to rob me of the destiny God has for me in this world.

I know what Jesus Christ did for me through His death, burial, and resurrection, and I - for one - am taking advantage of it. But guess what? God doesn't love me one iota more than he loves you or any other individual! I am totally convinced that He deeply desires each His children to live by faith and experience this tremendous love He has for us that drives out all fear.

Listen, you can hear Him saying now, "Child, come fly with me!"

Perfect Peace

One of the greatest promises of God is outlined in the passage below from the book of Isaiah. The Hebrew word for perfect peace is shalom, which implies health, happiness, well-being and total peace. In other words, everything you could hope for or need. It just doesn't get any better than that!

The key is "a mind stayed on You (God)." Again, getting back to the Hebrew language, the word for mind is a term meaning "creative imagination." It's putting God first place in your life - getting His plan and ideas as priority in every facet of your being.

"Now that's just getting a little too religious," someone will say. My answer to you is "No, this is the opposite of most religion; rather it is true relationship." It's the place that God intended for man (the pinnacle of His creation) to abide in Him. It's where Adam was before the fall; it's where you and I can be now through the Lord Jesus Christ.

By knowing and understanding the true nature of God, which is love (an unconditional, all-giving love), one's mind can soar through, above and beyond any adverse circumstance or condition. This is not pretending that the circumstance does not exist; rather it's trusting in God to see you through to victory_that's from where comes perfect peace.

Scripture: You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You. Isaiah 26:3

In the Hot Box with Jesus

One would almost think that the Holy Spirit had jockeys in mind when He dictated this scripture to the writer of Hebrews. Those few extra pounds, that unwanted weight which so easily attaches itself to the body is something that a majority of race riders must deal with. And most of them, at one time or another, go to the hot box or whirlpool to sweat off the excess pounds in an effort to "make weight."

Of course, the weight the Bible refers to is anything in our life that would hinder the plans and destiny that God has for us_not just the plan for us eventually making it into heaven, but realizing and experiencing the victories and fulfillment in the midst of the race. In other words, God intends us to enjoy the journey (race). Jesus said, "I've come that they (every believer, His sheep) might have life, and that they may have it more abundantly." (John 10:10)

Yes, He did say there would be persecutions for the Word's sake and that we would have some tribulations in the world (obstacles on life's track), "but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world."(John 16:33) Jesus lived a sinless life, then went to that cross to not only become our sin and pay the price for it, but to make provision for every need we would ever have. That's the abundance He was talking about. He has already totally provided for our every need in this life!

Some Bible scholars feel that the "sin that so easily ensnares us" in our topic scripture below is simply doubt and unbelief. The Apostle Paul tells us in Romans that whatever is not from faith is sin. (Romans 14:23) And since doubt and unbelief are the opposite of faith, it's obvious that this is the sin that so easily keeps us from receiving the promises of God and the many tremendous benefits that were provided for us via the death, burial, and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ.

We all need to jump in the "hot box" with Jesus and shuck off these weights of doubt and unbelief that keep us from running the race of life the way He intended. We do that by immersing ourselves in His Word...faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God. (Romans 10:17)

Through the person of the Holy Spirit, God will bring the Bible alive to you, making the Word a part of your very being. As that happens, pounds of doubt and unbelief will begin rolling off. Instead of sapping you of your strength, Jesus' hot box builds you up, refreshes your soul, and empowers you to go the distance. Making weight with Jesus is a blast!

Scripture: ....let us lay aside every weight, and the sin that so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us. Hebrews 12:1

Yes, I know it's been a while since I've posted. I have had some health issues these past months, but everything is looking somewhat better lately. I hope to be more present very soon.

You've Already Got It

One of the greatest revelations that a new believer -- and for some older ones, too -- can get is that prayer is not trying to talk God into something!

You don't need to convince God to give or do something for you . . . He's already done it! And the answer to your prayer is residing right there on the inside of you. You simply need to get the right attitude in your heart to bring the answer into manifestation. Look closely at the following scriptures:

"For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily; and you are complete in Him, who is the head of all principality and power." (Colossians 2:9-10)

"Furthermore, because we are united with Christ, we have received an inheritance from God, for he chose us in advance and he makes everything work out according to his plan." (Ephesians 1:11 NLT)

"For by grace you have been saved (set free from sin, healed, delivered from oppression, prospered) through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is a gift of God." (Ephesians 2:8; parenthesis mine)

"For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, 'Be removed and be cast into the sea, and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says. Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them." (Mark 11:23-24)

Meditate these scriptures -- get them settled in your heart -- and your prayer life concerning your personal needs or desires will change from asking Him to thanking Him that you already have it. The manifestation has to follow.*

Scripture: "And he said to him, 'Son, you are always with me, and all that I have is yours.'" Luke 15:31
