Dear God, We ask that You bless the students in our congregation, giving them inspirational teachers, studious habits, solid friendships, and Your grace in every moment of this school year. Bless the teachers and school staff in our congregation, too. Fill them with Your love and care so that, as they teach and minister to our young people, Your wisdom and light may be known, encountered, and shared.

Today the Church celebrates the birth of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Her nativity reminds us of God's loving plan of salvation and the hope that entered the world through her. May we follow Mary's example of faith and trust each day. Happy Birthday, Blessed Mother!

As we celebrate Labor Day, let us take a moment to recognize the dignity of every worker and the many ways their efforts help families, communities, and our church flourish. May we always value the work of every person, seek justice for all laborers, and give thanks for the opportunity to serve God through our daily work.

Msgr. Mleko serves as pastor 1971-1980
Knights of Columbus chartered in 1979 with 43 members
The Annual Summerfest is first held in 1982
Fr. Patrick Jackson begins in 1980, in 1983 he died suddenly while on vacation
Adult/Youth faith formation is established, Mary Tardif serves as the first director
RENEW process begins in 1984
Administration and activity rooms were added to the school building in 1985.
Small Faith Communities were introduced in 1987

Mother Teresa received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979
Pope John Paul II became pope in 1978 and inspired millions around the world
Personal computers began appearing in homes
St. Michael was also finding new ways to connect parishioners through small groups and ministries

▪First resident pastors: Fr. Joseph Byrne, followed by Fr. George Horkan
▪Purchase of the rectory at 207 E. Jefferson Street
▪Fr. Anthony Csaky appointed pastor in 1949, serving as pastor until 1966
▪Opening of St. Michael School in September, 1961
▪Dominican Sisters arrive and move into the new convent
▪Community ecumenical services started in 1966.
▪New church building starts in 1969 with innovations influenced by Vatican II

▫World War II was underway when the church was dedicated
▫Television became common in American homes
▫John F. Kennedy became the first Catholic U.S. president (1960)
▫The Second Vatican Council (1962-1965) renewed the liturgy and encouraged greater participation of the laity
▫The design of today's church reflects many Vatican II changes
