Step In or Out

John 10:9
“I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved…”

Good Morning!
Have ya’ll ever really thought about a doorway?
Probably not.
I guess my mind works weirdly. 😂
See, we walk through doors all day long without giving them a second thought.
But here's the thing about a door: we're either in the room or we're out of the room.
Sure, we can stand in the doorway for a while. We can have one foot inside and one foot outside. We can lean against the doorframe and visit with everybody inside. But eventually, we have to decide which way we're going...IN or Out.
And ya’ll know me, I started thinking…isn't that a lot like our relationship with Christ?
Jesus said, “I am the door.”
We can stand close to Him. We can know about Him. We can go to church, own several Bibles, listen to Christian music, share an inspirational post, and even know all the right words to say.
But standing near the door isn't the same as walking through it.
And I think we'd all agree that knowing about Jesus isn't the same as knowing Jesus.
Sometimes we want to live with one foot on each side of the doorway. We want Jesus when we're scared, pray when we're desperate, His comfort when we're hurting, and Heaven when this life is over…but we still want to keep one foot planted firmly in the things we aren't quite ready to surrender.
Basically, we want the benefits of being inside while still keeping easy access to the outside.
But Jesus didn't say, “I am the door...just hang around nearby.”
He said, “If any man enter in…”
There's an action involved.
We have to step through.
And here's what I love about walking through a door: it changes where we are...and who we are.
We don't suddenly become perfect Christians the moment we choose Christ. We still stumble. We still lose our patience. We still make bad decisions. We still say things we wish we could shove right back into our mouths. 🙋‍♀️
But we're in a different place.
We belong to Him. We're in Christ...and He's in us.
And once we're in Christ, He begins changing us from the inside out...one decision, one lesson, one correction, and one step at a time.
Maybe today we need to ask ourselves a simple question:
Which side of the door are we standing on?
And, are we reaching back outside for things God has already asked us to leave behind?
Think about it... having one foot in the world and one foot with Christ would only cause us to do the spiritual splits...and I for one wouldn't be able to at my age. 😂

When You Don’t Know Which Way to Go

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.” — Proverbs 3:5

Life has a way of putting us in situations where we find ourselves asking, “Is it this one… or that one?”

Which direction should I take? Which opportunity should I pursue? Which relationship should I hold onto? Which door is God opening—and which one am I trying to force?

I have learned that not every decision comes with a flashing sign from heaven.

Sometimes I want God to make His will so obvious that even I can’t miss it. I want Him to point and say, “Kerry, THIS ONE!”

But faith doesn’t always work that way.

Sometimes God allows me to sit in uncertainty long enough to learn how to trust Him more than I trust myself.

And I’m discovering something else: I don’t have to have every answer to have peace.

There are moments when I simply have to pray, use the wisdom God has already given me, take the next faithful step, and trust Him with what I cannot see.

We can wear ourselves out examining every possibility, replaying every conversation, and worrying that one wrong choice will ruin everything.

But God is bigger than one decision.

If my heart is sincerely seeking Him, He is fully capable of redirecting me.

A wrong turn does not cancel God’s destination.

So today, if you’re staring at two choices asking, “This one or that one?”, don’t let uncertainty steal your peace.

Pray.

Listen.

Move when God gives you peace to move.

And remember—you may not know which way everything is going, but you know Who is going with you.

Sometimes faith is not having every answer.

Sometimes faith is simply saying:

“Lord, I don’t know which one—but I trust You with whichever one comes next.”

And that is enough.

Act and react like a Christian

‘‘You have heard that it was said…But I say to you.’’
Matthew 5:21-22 NKJV

Around the turn of the nineteenth century, a Russian physician named Ivan Pavlov won a Nobel Prize for his experiments with dogs. All of them had one thing in common – they salivated around food. But Pavlov wanted to find out if salivation could be caused by another stimulus, so he conditioned the dogs by ringing a bell before feeding them. Eventually the dinner bell caused salivation, even if the food wasn’t served. Pavlov referred to this learned relationship as a conditioned reflex. We have all been consciously or subconsciously conditioned our entire lives. Much of our behaviour was dictated by those conditioned reflexes. Some conditioned reflexes are as normal and natural as a blush. Others are as destructive as drinking to drown your sorrows. But conscious or subconscious, harmless or harmful, one thing is certain: we are far more conditioned than we realise. And one dimension of our spiritual growth is being reconditioned by the grace of God. Jesus said, ‘You have heard that it was said…But I say to you.’ Jesus uses this couplet repeatedly. What was He doing? He was uninstalling Old Testament applications and reinstalling New Testament truths. It was no longer ‘An eye for an eye.’ Jesus upgraded it to ‘Turn to them the other cheek,’ which required reconditioned reflexes (see Matthew 5:38-39 NIV). Sometimes it’s much easier to act like a Christian than to react like one. How does this change in our reactions take place? By the Holy Spirit. ‘We are being changed to be like him [Jesus]. This change…comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit’ (2 Corinthians 3:18 NCV).
