🙋🏽♂️📖As I was studying John 8 this morning, the Holy Spirit impressed a powerful truth on my heart that I want to share with you.
Before I get there, let me explain something that has become one of the most valuable ways I study the Scriptures. Whenever I read a biblical account, I try not to simply observe it, I place myself in it. I ask the Holy Spirit to help me see where I am in the story and to reveal something in my own heart that I may have overlooked.
So, as I read about the woman caught in adultery, I wasn’t asking, “What did they do?” I was asking, “Lord, where am I in this story?”
Am I the woman in desperate need of grace? Am I one of the religious leaders with a stone in my hand, convinced I’m right while blind to my own need for mercy? Am I part of the crowd, silently watching while someone else is publicly condemned? Or am I looking to Jesus and learning how to respond with both grace and truth?
The religious leaders brought the woman to Jesus with stones in their hands. Jesus met the situation with both grace and truth.
Then Jesus said, "He who is without sin among you, let him throw a stone at her first.” (John 8:7) One by one, they dropped their stones and walked away.
As followers of Jesus, we really have no stones to throw. Every one of us has been saved by grace, forgiven through the cross, and shown mercy we did not deserve.
Jesus never compromised the truth. He told the woman, “Go and sin no more.” But He also refused to let condemnation have the final word. He spoke truth with love, grace, and the hope of transformation.
Yes, the closer we get to Jesus, the more aware we become of the grace we’ve received. We remember the pit He brought us out of, the sins He forgave, and the mercy He continues to show us every day.
No stones to throw. Only hearts surrendered to Jesus and hands extended to help others follow Him.

Dig Deeper: Now, I encourage you to read John 8:3-11, placing yourself in the story. Ask the Holy Spirit, “Lord, where am I in this?” Then yield to Him. Allow Him to speak to your heart, reveal what you need to hear, and show you what you need to see.
3 And the scribes and Pharisees brought unto him a woman taken in adultery; and when they had set her in the midst,
4 They say unto him, Master, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act.
5 Now Moses in the law commanded us, that such should be stoned: but what sayest thou?
6 This they said, tempting him, that they might have to accuse him. But Jesus stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground, as though he heard them not.
7 So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.
8 And again he stooped down, and wrote on the ground.
9 And they which heard it, being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, even unto the last: and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst.
10 When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee?
11 She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.
