Temperatures will be on the rise by the middle of this upcoming week. Highs of 85 to 90 coupled with very high humidity will send heat index readings well into the 90s to potentially near 100 away from and outside of any thunderstorms that develop. The Heat Risk map shows Thursday's heat potential, with moderate to major heat impacts possible, impacting especially heat-sensitive individuals. If storm chances increase, widespread heat impacts would be lessened, so monitor the latest forecast information.

The Holland Flotilla conducted a public relations event at Holland West Marine in order to kick off the National Safe Boating Week on Saturday, May 16.

Flotilla members met with the public by conducting vessel safety checks, promoted upcoming safe boating classes, and answered general questions from shoppers about life jacket requirements, navigation lights, and anchoring.

One of the memorable vessel checks was from a new boater couple who stopped by and asked many questions about safety and operations.

The Holland flotilla, along with our other flotillas, is actively involved in many upcoming vessel safety check programs at local marinas across west Michigan. If you would like a vessel safety check, please contact your local flotilla by going to www.cgaux.org and sign up for a free inspection today!

It's National Safe Boating Week! Day 4 - Tip 4: Never boat under the influence.

🗺️ Let someone know before you go.

Before heading out on the water, always file a float plan with a trusted friend or family member. Include:

• Where you’re going
• Who’s on board
• When you plan to return

If something unexpected happens, rescuers will know where to start looking.

Safe boating starts with preparation.

⚓ Stay connected to your boat.

An Engine Cut-Off Switch (ECOS) can stop your boat’s engine if you fall overboard — preventing accidents and keeping your boat from circling without a driver.

Before you leave the dock:
✔ Attach the lanyard
✔ Test it
✔ Make it part of your routine

Small step. Big safety impact.
