Today, representatives of the Presbytery of the Northern Plains attended the funeral service for Pastor Sue Kana-Mackey at Langdon Presbyterian Church, including Ellen Misialek, The Rev. Mary Jo E. Holtey, and Moderator Rusty Bender.
Pastor Sue faithfully served Christ and the Church for decades across multiple communities and denominations, most recently here in Langdon. She will be remembered for her deep faith, thoughtful spirit, steady pastoral presence, and devotion to the people and congregations she served.
Moderator Rusty Bender reflected on getting to know Pastor Sue while working together to plan the Fall 2025 Presbytery meeting hosted at Langdon Presbyterian Church. βI quickly learned that Pastor Sue did things thoughtfully, carefully β and maybe just a little bit old school. While most of us rely on email and attachments, Pastor Sue would mail her worship materials through the postal service, then send an email to let me know they were on the way. There was something wonderfully personal about that. In a world that moves so quickly, she chose to do things with care, intention, and a personal touch that reflected who she was.β
Looking back at the worship service Pastor Sue planned for that gathering, its themes of seeds planted in faith, God bringing unexpected growth, and communities shaped by grace and hope now seem especially fitting. Through her ministry, Pastor Sue planted many seeds of faith and compassion that will continue to bear fruit for years to come.
We give thanks today for Pastor Sueβs life, for her faithful witness, and for the many lives she touched along the way. Blessed be her memory.
