Please keep Pres. Harrison in your prayers along with the upcoming Convention

The Rev. Dr. Matthew C. Harrison, having received more than 50% percent of the votes cast in the third ballot for the election of the president of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS), is the president-elect for the 2026–2029 triennium. It will be his sixth term in office.

May the Lord richly endue him with strength for continued service and make him a blessing to the Synod and to the church.

Great resource for families

The catechism is a teaching companion and learning tool for children and adults alike. Luther’s intent was for his catechism to be read, memorized and referenced on repeat, as he himself said: “I must remain a child and pupil of the catechism, and am glad so to remain.”

These catechism memory cards have been compiled to help make what may seem like an insurmountable task in our hurried, 21st century context feel more achievable: coming to learn and love the main tenets of the faith. The point, of course, is not to achieve simple rote memorization for the sake of personal achievement. The goal is loftier. With eyes fixed to eternity, we memorize Scripture, the catechism and the truths of what we believe so that by internalizing and impressing such things upon our lips and hearts, our lives may be conformed to the words we discipline our minds to learn. We also commit these things to memory so that we are armed with words that bring truth and life when we are faced with temptation, doubt, even death itself. Finally, we memorize these things with our neighbors always on our mind — so that we are ready to confidently witness the Gospel, defend the faith, and serve our neighbor in deed and in truth (1 John 3:18).

These catechism memory cards from LCMS Family Ministry largely follow the pattern and layout of Luther’s Small Catechism. Most of the answers are taken verbatim from Scripture and from the catechism. Download a printable version and access an online edition: https://thelc.ms/49ts74i

Immanuel Lutheran is celebrating its 125th anniversary August 29 & 30. There will be a special service on Saturday, August 29 at 4:00 p.m. with the Lutheran Hour's Rev. Dr. Ziegler, a son of the congregation, preaching. Banquet to follow at 5:30 with tickets on sale starting in July. At the banquet, we will hear more from Rev. Dr. Ziegler, along with some of our former pastors. Please plan to join us for a wonderful celebration of God's goodness to us in Christ Jesus.

Please take time to lift our Synod up in prayer.

This week, you are invited to pray for the Synod presidential election, especially for the electors, who are preparing for the first round of voting.

In place of a collect, consider praying and meditating on the following verses:

Walk about Zion, go around her,
number her towers,
consider well her ramparts,
go through her citadels,
that you may tell the next generation
that this is God,
our God forever and ever.
He will guide us forever. (Psalm 48:12–14)
