A MESSAGE FROM FR. PETER TO THE ASSUMPTION COMMUNITY:
While Sunday, Sept 6 will be my last liturgy as presiding priest of Assumption, I enter retirement with great satisfaction in the wonderful things this community has accomplished over the last 3 ½ years. There has been re-dedication, renewal, and growth. This has been through the efforts of all of its faithful. I am especially pleased that you will continue this work through the leadership of your new priest, Fr. Nick Lionas. I have known him since his teens - he has been a friend and acquaintance of my own boys, and I have followed his path during his college and seminary education and beyond. I know and trust that you will embrace, support, and especially love him, Presvytera Amanda and his children, and I pray that our Lord and Savior will give him all of the strength and discernment that he will need to continue to grow His vineyard in Grand Blanc. For my part, I stand ready to give him any wise counsel that I may possess and have acquired along with the grey hairs I now bear. ΤΟ ΘΕΩ ΔΟΞΑ ΕΙΣ ΠΑΝΤΑ - GLORY TO GOD IN ALL THINGS. +Fr. Peter

On September 3rd the Parish Council met with Chancellor Fr. Nick Kotsis to discuss the plan for the assignment of a parish priest following Fr. Peter’s retirement.

I am pleased to announce that starting Sunday, October 4, 2026, Fr. Nick Lionas will be assigned as a permanent substitute priest. Fr. Nick is married to Presbytera Amanda, and they have two children, Scotty and Eleni.

Fr. Nick was born and raised in Rochester, Michigan. He graduated from Michigan State University with a Bachelors of Arts in Communication in 2009. Upon graduation he began work for OCF at its national office. He continued to work for OCF intermittently until 2013 when he graduated from Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology with a Masters in Divinity. Fr. Nick began work with the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America as its Young Adult Ministries Coordinator. In 2014, he moved back to the Detroit area and became Pastoral Assistant at St. John in Sterling Heights, followed by being the Youth and Young Adult Director at Assumption in St. Clair Shores, Michigan. He was ordained to the holy priesthood in 2021, and served as the Assistant to Metropolitan Nicholas of Detroit. He was most recently assigned to St. George Greek Orthodox Church in Bloomfield Hills.

We look forward to welcoming Fr. Nick in October. Until then, we will have substitute priests for the month of September.

A SPECIAL INVITATION TO THE DEDICATION OF OUR NEW ALTAR CROSS SUNDAY AUGUST 23, 2026

At the conclusion of the Divine Liturgy on Sunday, August 23, we will have a procession and blessing of our NEW altar cross and transfer of the figure of the crucified Christ to it. We will dedicate the old cross to the memory of our past members and to the future of our community.

We will be honored with the presence of the builder of the cross, Mr. Danny Savoie and his family.
