Don’t Allow the Past to Be a Profit to Your Future
“See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland,” Isaiah 43:19.
There comes a moment when we must make a choice — to stop rehearsing what hurt us and start releasing what’s behind us. Too often, we let our past become a profit to our future — meaning, we keep cashing in on old pain, past disappointments, and yesterday’s failures. We allow what was to dictate what can be. But God never intended for our history to hold our destiny hostage.
Your past may have shaped you, but it was never meant to define you. Every scar, every season, and every setback was a classroom — not a cage. The Lord is inviting you to perceive the new thing He is doing. It may not look familiar, and it may not feel comfortable, but He is already making a way in your wilderness.
Today is not yesterday. The mercies of God are new every morning — not recycled, not repeated — new. (Lamentations 3:22–23) The same God who brought you through the last storm is now leading you into a season of refreshing and restoration. But you can’t receive the new thing while holding onto the old one.
So, lay it down. Release the guilt, the “what ifs,” the fear of repeating the past. God is writing a new story — one marked by healing, hope, and promise. Don’t let the pain of what’s behind you become the profit you live off of. Instead, invest your faith in the new thing God is doing right now.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for doing a new thing in my life. Help me to stop allowing my past to dictate my future. Teach me to release what was and embrace what is being birthed in me today. I trust that You are making a way in my wilderness and creating streams in my dry places. Let my eyes see and my heart perceive the new thing You are doing. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
