Day 3: Mission Trip Update
Today our morning started with a trip to the national archives where we got the chance to see our nations founding documents. This was an awesome experience and left us all thinking about the ways our country has worked over the years to bring justice and peace through national documents like the emancipation proclamation, different amendments, and coming together through times of crisis and war. This was a difficult tension to hold as we walked, later in the evening, along the Vietnam Memorial Wall of names. This was a sacred and silent moment that brought to mind the complexity of humanity, power, pain, and our hope for a better world. We don’t always get things right. We aren’t always just. We don’t always lean into love. Our greed blinds us and our privilege sets us apart. And still, we pray. We show up. And we try to do better. I hope.
We served our neighbors in D.C this afternoon through the Capitol Area Food Pantry where together we prepped 220 boxes of food for seniors who wouldn’t otherwise have enough to eat. There are 7,000 + members of this program that receive boxes of food monthly for free. We were met by amazing, passionate staff who made working fun and who worked along side us with good tunes and good vibes!
Our feet are sore, legs starting to cramp, and hearts abounding with love and gratitude for a God who walks with us and our neighbors in a world that is messy but held in love that is greater than all of us. Thank God.
Much love, Church. We will check in again with some updates tomorrow! Oh, and we met Einstein…
