In case any Crossways fans may be interested, I will be leading an online Bible Study on behalf of Sola Publishing, called: "Spiritual Realms - A Bible Study on Heaven and Hell and Places Beyond this World." Specifically, the study looks at the many “place names” that are found throughout Scripture, referring to spiritual realms of existence that underlie and comprise the universe God created. The first session will be Monday, October 14th (6pm Central, 7pm Eastern), and will continue for 5 weeks, ending the week before Thanksgiving. It is with sadness, yet with a full confidence in Christ, that I share news of the passing of Dr. Harry Wendt last Saturday, July 13th, 2024. We give thanks for Harry’s life, trusting that our Lord Jesus is faithful and true to the promise of eternal life that He gives to us all, just as Harry taught us for so many years. Our prayers go out to his family, especially his wife Chloris. Harry and Chloris had known each other for 70 years.

At the age of 93, Dr. Wendt’s health had been slowly declining over the past few years. Towards the end, it was difficult for him to communicate. But Harry never lost hold of the clear message of his Servant King, in whose care and keeping he now abides.

In the time that Sola Publishing has undertaken the stewardship of the biblical teaching resources Dr. Wendt produced through Crossways, I have been told by (literally) hundreds of people how much Harry’s teaching meant to them over the years, and how Harry’s exposition of God’s Word had shaped their understanding of the Scriptures and the very faith of their heart. No better testimony can be given to the life and ministry of this teacher and ambassador for Christ, than that Harry so faithfully pointed others to our Savior.

Lord God, we give you thanks for the faithful life of your servant, Dr. Harry Wendt, and for his many years of teaching and proclamation. We commend him into Your care and keeping, even as we hold to the sure and certain hope of the Resurrection through Christ our Lord. By Harry’s example, may our faith continue to be grounded in the Scriptures and the love that we have in Jesus. Father, we pray in the name of the same Jesus Christ, our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

We just received in the mail samples of of the new Khmer version of "See Through the Scriptures," produced through the Lutheran Heritage Foundation (www.LHFmissions,org). Khmer is the language spoke in Cambodia. This translation had been produced years ago, and will now be promoted again through LHF in southeast Asia. Sola Publishing was happy to give its support to this project. Crossways continues to have a world-wide impact in the 21st Century!

I wanted to give an update to supporters of Crossways on how things keep moving forward with the ministry! Congregations and individuals continue to use the various Crossways Bible Overview series, and we never stop getting positive responses from people across the country and the world.

a) The Crossways distributor in Cambodia recently was approved to do a new printing of “See Through the Scriptures” in the Khmer language for use in teaching and evangelism. Though Sola Publishing itself produces only English versions of the Crossways materials, we continue to receive inquiries about foreign language editions to be produced on a local level, and are committed to assist in such endeavors.

b) Thank you to Crossways supporters who responded to Sola’s appeal for help with installing a new roof on the Sola facility in February 2024. People responded generously to our request, and we were able to pay for the entire roof installation without taking out a loan.

c) Having been distracted a bit by facility issues, we are now getting back to our long-term project of producing a new edition of the Divine Drama. This continues to be the best-selling series of all the Crossways materials. Our intention for the future is to make less expensive versions of the student books that present the full series in a more stream-lined form, with updated art, and capable of being printed by Sola Publishing “in house.” With shipping costs these days continuing to go up (especially internationally), lighter and more condensed versions of the Student Manuals will save our customers a lot of money!

We pray for God’s blessing to be with you and your congregations that you may be strengthed in God’s Word in the amazing story of the Scriptures and that you may bear witness to the love of our Servant King Jesus!

For those who know the timeline, see if you can remember what each picture conveys. For those who have never seen it, take a few moments today to read through the list to get a summary of the over-arching story of Scripture!
