Unitarian Universalist Society of Grafton & Upton - UUSGU

Unitarian Universalist Society of Grafton & Upton - UUSGU Worship Sundays start at 10:00 AM Originally, the meetinghouse stood in the center of the town common. The orthodox wing took the name Congregational.

One hundred years after its founding, the church was split along the liberal-orthodox line. The liberal wing took the name Unitarian and built their church on its present location. During the Civil War, while the minister was serving with the Massachusetts Regiment, the church burned down. The current building, rebuilt on the site, was dedicated in 1864. Within the past 40 years, the Unitarian Soc

iety of Upton and the Unitarian Society of Grafton were merged. Both churches have weathered the progress and unrest inherent in a vital and changing society, and both have contributed greatly to the religious life of their respective communities. Today we are a growing community welcoming many members from neighboring towns including Westborough, Millbury, Worcester, and Shrewsbury. All have joined to continue our common journey

Take part in the beauty of our annual Flower Communion. Through the shared exchange of flowers and herbs, we celebrate the power of beloved community. Each person brings a unique gift, and together we create something vibrant, meaningful, and new—a living expression of peace rooted in connection.

Last weekend, Steve Lotterman, Bette Lotterman, Greg Maas, and Suzanne Maas (behind the camera) put up signs for this year's Reading Frederick Douglass Together event. Look for the signs outside Grafton Public Library and at the intersection of 140 and 122 at Perreault's.

Scammers are targeting a number of local congregations over email, and someone with the address “[email protected]” (and possibly others) has been attempting to impersonate Rev. Daniel. The fake emails urgently request the purchase of gift cards. Please be wary of odd messages like this, and always confirm that emails are from his actual address, [email protected].

Join us for a celebration of the astonishing diversity of life. “The Q***rness of Nature,” a term coined by mycologist Patricia Ononiwu Kaishian, opens a window into the fluid, nonbinary, and expansive ways of being found in fungi, plants, and animals and within our own lives. Together, we’ll explore the spiritual invitation to embrace identities that transcend boundaries and honor the spectacular fullness of creation.

The revised Covenant of Right Relationships will be debuted and signed as part of this service. The Annual Meeting of the Society will immediately follow this service.

"If we look closely at this evocative nineteenth-century landscape by Francis Augustus Silva, Ten Pound Island, Gloucester (1870–71), we can just make out the lighthouse standing watch in the harbor. That distant beacon serves as a fitting final image for our yearlong journey through Geography of the Spirit: Landscapes of the Soul."

"Blessed are the elders who paved the way,
for we follow in the freedom of their work.

Blessed are the young ones still figuring it out,
for the world is wide enough for all their becoming."

This Pride Month, we celebrate the joy, resilience, and beauty of LGBTQIA+ communities.

In "The Q***r Beatitudes," Tim Atkins (also known as Sister Sweet Suffering Tea of the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence) offers this blessing:

"Blessed are we, the whole q***r family,
for love is our birthright, and joy is our inheritance."

May we continue building a world where every person can live, love, and flourish as their full self. 🌈
