Returning Again and Again

Lord, give me faith, faith in your endless mercy, your boundless forgiveness, your unfathomable goodness. Let me not be tempted to think that my sins are too great to be forgiven, too abominable to be touched by your mercy. Let me never run away from you but return to you again and again, asking you to be my Lord, my Shepherd, my Stronghold, and my Refuge. Take me under your wing, O Lord….

God is the Source

For Jesus, and for us, prayer provides the insight and affirmation that if we do anything that is worthwhile – teaching, healing, organizing, reforming, working for good – we can never claim it as our own achievement. Rather, we can acknowledge it as a gift of God, the result of which is in God's hands. Prayer is the experience of knowing that God is the source of everything we claim as our own. To pray is to say with Jesus, “Not my will, but yours. Not my words, but yours. Not my worth, but yours. Not my glory, but yours. Not in my name, but in yours.”


Reflection Question: What achievements have you been claiming as your own - and how will you acknowledge them as a result of God's hands?

All is Yours O Lord

Dear Lord, help me keep my eyes on you. You are the incarnation of Divine Love, you are the expression of God's infinite compassion, you are the visible manifestation of the Father's holiness. You are beauty, goodness, gentleness, forgiveness, and mercy. In you all can be found. Outside of you nothing can be found. Why should I look elsewhere or go elsewhere? You have the words of eternal life, you are food and drink, you are the Way, the Truth, and the Life. You are the light that shines in the darkness, the lamp on the lampstand, the house on the hilltop. You are the perfect Icon of God. In and through you I can see the Heavenly Father, and with you I can find my way to the Trinity. O Holy One, Beautiful One, Glorious One, be my Lord, my Savior, my Redeemer, my Guide, my Consoler, my Comforter, my Hope, my Joy and my Peace. To you I want to give all that I am. People of Hope

We are called to be a people of hope. Together, we can face our despairs – personal, global, or ecclesiastic. Together, too, we can find the risen Lord, emerged from his tomb of despair, ready once again to love us first. In embracing us, Jesus gives us the hope we need to find and live the life he has hidden in us and in the world.


Reflection Question: How will you connect to the hope Jesus gives you so that you can fully live the life God has hidden within you?

Life is Small
From: The Road to Peace: Writings on Peace and Justice

Living without judgment is very difficult. It means trusting that new life can emerge even in a world full of distrust, violence, destruction, and war.
Life is always small. It is always vulnerable. It never shouts or screams. It always needs protection and guidance. Saying “yes” to it means being willing to look at the small life that seeks to be born in your heart, in your body, in your mind, among people…. Because life is very small, you can never see it happening. Have you ever seen a tree actually grow? Can you see a child grow? Growth is too gentle, too tender. Life is basically hidden. It is small and begs for constant care and protection. If you are committed to always saying “yes” to life, you are going to have to become a person who chooses it when it is hidden.


Reflection Question: How will you keep choosing to grow - even when the changes are imperceptible?

I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want.

Sending Our Spirit of Love

From: Finding My Way Home: Pathways to Life and the Spirit

After a very short visit to earth the time comes for each of us to pass from this world to the next. We have been sent into the world as God's beloved children, and in our passages and losses we learn to love each other as spouse, parent, brother, or sister. We support one another through the passages of life, and together we grow in love. Finally we ourselves are called to exodus, and we leave the world for full communion with God. It is possible for us, like Jesus, to send our spirit of love to our friends when we leave them. Our spirit, the love we leave behind, is deeply in God's Spirit. It is our greatest gift to those we love.


Reflection Question: How might the love you share with others become a lasting gift that continues to live in them—even through times of change, loss, and separation?

Your father's blessings are greater than the blessings of the ancient mountains, than the bounty of the age-old hills.

Being Attentive

From: Following Jesus: Finding Our Way Home in an Age of Anxiety

Lord Jesus,
Free me from the many things that occupy and preoccupy me. Help me just to be with you. To pray with you, glorify you, thank you, worship you. I want to be attentive, more ready to hear you, more willing to understand the mystery of your birth and life, your dying and your rising. Make me still, Lord, make me quiet, and speak to me in that silence.
Amen.


Reflection Question: How will you offer worship to your Lord today?

Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.
