This is Melvin. He rests at Oakridge Cemetery closer to 1st street than the original hill. Location can be shown upon request.
The stone reads;
"Goshen children tribute to Melvin who gave his life in an effort to save Margaret Hutchinson from drowning. July 3, 1924.
Melvin Bartels

Age 14 YRS"
This stone just struck me when I came across it. A 14 year old child attempting to save the life of another? I attempted to get some newspaper clippings but could not come across any as of yet but hopefully more info coming soon. Also am inquiring about the location of Margaret, I wonder if she could be close by?
