Black Jack Baptist Church

Black Jack Baptist Church After 142 years of meaningful service and teaching, vandals destroyed the church by fire as was typical of so many historic black churches across the south.

Black Jack Baptist Church was founded by former slaves in 1870 just seven years after president Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation and six years after the 13th amendment to the US constitution abolished slavery. The congregation was not to be undone as that community came together to provide professional talent, money and supplies, equipment, building supplies, and hard work and tenacity as Black Jack Baptist Church rose from the ashes.

They are not so cute when you get one in your attic and it tries to dig a hole in your ceiling.
