And yet we are asked to believe this happened by accident? As if one day a woodpecker suddenly decided its tongue was not long enough and somehow grew it to wrap entirely around its skull. That is not science. That is fantasy. This feature did not appear through wishful thinking or blind chance.

The woodpecker’s tongue is an unmistakable mark of intentional design. It wraps around the head for storage and shock absorption and extends deep into tree cavities to reach insects other birds cannot touch. That level of precision serves a clear purpose from day one. This does not whisper accident. It declares planning, foresight, and design.

Feb. 5-6, ‘26 - Day 73 & 74

“The Lord directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives.” - Psalm 37:23

What an amazing couple of days!

Thursday was an incredible one. All of Onnikka’s therapy sessions went smoothly, and then came some huge news - with the support of four amazing therapists, Onnikka WALKED. 🥳🙌 She moved her feet on her own, stayed upright, and her vitals remained strong and steady the entire time. This was such a powerful moment for her confidence and spirit. For a long time she’s doubted that walking again was possible, no matter how many times Jenna (Mom) or others have reassured her. Thursday proved what we’ve been believing all along - her legs DO work, her body DOES remembers, and she CAN walk. Even supported steps are still steps, and we’re praising God for every single one.

Friday kicked off with Speech Therapy, continuing work on orientation. Some days she knows exactly where she is, and other days her answers vary - which is completely normal and part of the healing process as her brain continues to recover. 💕🧠💕

Next came Physical Therapy, where she worked in the ERIGO machine - a robotic rehab device that brings her into a standing position while cycling her legs to encourage natural movement, circulation, and muscle activation. It’s amazing what technology and God’s design can do together! 🙌❤️

After PT, it was time for Therapeutic Recreation, where we learned how to secure a wheelchair into a vehicle - and then we took that knowledge straight into action with a trip off campus to a nail salon 💙 Onnikka chose a beautiful blue and absolutely loved every minute of it.

Following a quick lunch, she headed into Occupational Therapy. Here she worked on picking up a ball about the size of a volleyball and lifting it into a “shooting” position before bringing it back down. This helped engage and strengthen both her left and right arms. They then moved to the mat, where she practiced stacking cups and blowing a Q-tip through a straw to knock them over - all while maintaining her balance. Her core strength has grown so much this past week, and it’s truly incredible to witness. 💪

Later, we bundled up and enjoyed the gorgeous weather before heading in for dinner. The evening ended perfectly with a movie night and time spent with a close friend who flew in from Idaho to be with her.

More good news! 🎉
Onnikka has been upgraded to “chunky” food - praise the Lord for food that finally resembles food! Jenna has also been cleared for an off-campus pass, opening the door for outings like shopping, hair and nail appointments, and exploring the area. The recreation therapist is even working on arranging a visit to a local farm so Onnikka can spend time with horses and other animals - something we’re really hoping comes together in the coming weeks.

Prayer Requests: 🙏
💜 For a peaceful, restful weekend

💜 For continued and complete healing of Onnikka’s brain and brain stem

💜 For strength, health, and endurance for both Onnikka and Jenna

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your continued prayers, love, and encouragement. God’s hand is so evident in this journey, and we’re incredibly grateful for everyone walking alongside us 🤍🙏

🙂 With no therapy sessions scheduled over the weekend, we will share another update Monday evening. Wishing everyone a blessed and restful weekend! 💜

I recently came across a Jewish shepherding tradition that stopped me in my tracks.

According to some historical reflections,
shepherds would carefully set apart
unblemished lambs intended for sacrifice

At birth, these lambs were closely guarded,
often wrapped and placed temporarily
in feeding troughs to keep them from injury,
preserving them as spotless offerings.

Scripture doesn’t explicitly record this practice.
And it’s important to say that plainly.
But the moment I read it,
my mind went immediately to Luke 2,
and it changed the way I read the Christmas story.

Because if shepherds truly understood
what it meant to recognize an unblemished lamb,
then suddenly it makes perfect sense
why they were among the first to see the Messiah.

Luke tells us the angel gave them a very specific sign,
“You will find a baby wrapped in swaddling cloths
and lying in a manger.” (Luke 2:12)

Not a palace.
Not a throne.
Not a royal nursery.
A feeding trough.
Wrapped in cloth strips.
An infant placed where animals feed.

To most people, even to us,
that scene would have looked ordinary,
maybe even disappointing.
But to shepherds?
Men whose lives revolved around animals,
birth, inspection, and care?
That sign would have spoken
a language they understood.

They knew what it meant
to look for something fragile.
They knew what it meant
to guard what was set apart.
They knew how to examine
what was without blemish.

So when heaven announced
the birth of a Savior and pointed them,
not to power, but to humility,
they were ready to recognize Him.

I'm thinking this is probably
why the shepherds didn’t arrive confused.

Luke says they "went with haste".
This detail matters.
They didn’t wander.
They didn’t hesitate.
They didn’t question
whether the sign made sense.
They knew exactly
what they were looking for.

And when they saw Him,
they didn’t debate theology.
They worshiped. Then they testified.

From the very beginning,
Jesus is placed in the world of sacrifice, not spectacle.

His story doesn’t start with miracles or sermons,
it starts with positioning.
He is wrapped.
He is laid down.
He is seen by shepherds before kings.

Long before the cross,
the language of offering
is already being spoken.

Later, Scripture will call Him,
the Lamb of God who takes away
the sin of the world,
the Passover Lamb,
the One without blemish or spot.

But perhaps the shepherds saw something
that night others would miss,
not because they knew everything,
but because they knew enough.

Enough to recognize that God’s salvation
would not arrive looking powerful.
Enough to believe that holiness
could be wrapped in weakness.
Enough to understand that
what is set apart often arrives quietly.

Whether or not every detail
of that shepherding tradition
can be historically proven,
the theology remains unmistakable,
God chose witnesses who knew
how to recognize a lamb.

And maybe that’s the invitation for us, too.

To stop looking for God only in the impressive.
To recognize Him in the humble.
To understand that salvation
may come wrapped in ways
we don’t expect, but always exactly as promised.

The shepherds saw Him
because they knew
what they were looking at.
And the unblemished Lamb
had been marked from the beginning.
