Today, we mourn the 2,977. The American lives lost to senseless terrorism. We will never forget the infamous, gruesome, fear-ridden day that American Airlines Flight 11 and United Airlines Flight 175 struck the World Trade Center. The day that American Airlines flight 77 hit the Pentagon. The day United Airlines flight 93 crashed into a field in rural Pennsylvania. September 11th, 2001 will always be a day associated with memories of grief, confusion, terror, and anger. Our prayers still and will forever be with the families of those affected or lost.
Though we mourn, we also celebrate the bravery and commitment of our first responders— both those who stood in the gap then, and those still running to the front lines today.
We also celebrate the lives of the passengers who fought back. The civilians who risked their lives in the name of saving others. Though they perished, we want to recognize their sacrifice and honor their legacy as true American heroes.
To our first responders: thank you. We appreciate your long nights away from your families, your exhausting hours running from one scene to another, the blood, the sweat, and the tears you shed day in and day out for our community. Never forget to pray for your first responders and their families.
Never Forget, 9.11.2001
