Acts 17:10-11

The brothers immediately sent Paul and Silas away by night to Berea, and when they arrived they went into the Jewish synagogue. Now these Jews were more noble than those in Thessalonica; they received the word with all eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see if these things were so.

Acts 4:1-13

And as they were speaking to the people, the priests and the captain of the temple and the Sadducees came upon them, greatly annoyed because they were teaching the people and proclaiming in Jesus the resurrection from the dead. And they arrested them and put them in custody until the next day, for it was already evening. But many of those who had heard the word believed, and the number of the men came to about five thousand. On the next day their rulers and elders and scribes gathered together in Jerusalem, ...

Revelation 1:1-20

The revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave him to show to his servants the things that must soon take place. He made it known by sending his angel to his servant John, who bore witness to the word of God and to the testimony of Jesus Christ, even to all that he saw. Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear, and who keep what is written in it, for the time is near. John to the seven churches that are in Asia: Grace to you and peace from him who is and who was and who is to come, and from the seven spirits who are before his throne, and from Jesus Christ the faithful witness, the firstborn of the dead, and the ruler of kings on earth. To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood ...

Commentary on Collosians 3:17

Colossians 3:17 states:
"And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him."

This verse is part of a larger passage in which the apostle Paul is instructing the Christian believers in Colossae on how to live as followers of Christ. He emphasizes the transformative power of Christ and the need for believers to align their words and actions with their faith. Colossians 3:17 serves as a guiding principle for the Christian life.

The verse begins by stating, "And whatever you do in word or deed." This encompasses all aspects of a Christian believer's life, both their words and their actions. It emphasizes the all-encompassing nature of the Christian faith, indicating that it should permeate every aspect of our existence. As followers of Christ, we are called to live in a way that is consistent with our beliefs.

The next part of the verse says, "do all in the name of the Lord Jesus." This phrase carries profound significance. Doing something in the name of the Lord Jesus means doing it under His authority, with His approval, and for His glory. It implies that our actions should align with the character and teachings of Jesus Christ. We are called to represent Him well in everything we do, reflecting His love, grace, and truth to the world around us.

Doing all things in the name of the Lord Jesus also implies that we should seek His guidance and wisdom in decision-making. We are called to surrender our own will and desires to align with His perfect will. This requires an ongoing relationship with Him, relying on His strength and seeking His guidance through prayer, studying His Word, and listening to the prompting of the Holy Spirit.

Additionally, the verse instructs Christian believers to "give thanks to God the Father through Him." Gratitude is an essential aspect of the Christian life. We are called to acknowledge and appreciate God's goodness, provision, and grace in our lives. By giving thanks to God through Jesus, we recognize that He is the mediator between us and God the Father, and it is through His sacrifice that we have access to God's love and mercy.

Colossians 3:17 serves as a powerful reminder for believers to live a life that is characterized by faith, obedience, and gratitude. It challenges us to examine our words and actions, ensuring they align with the teachings of Jesus Christ. When we live in this way, we bring glory to God and bear witness to the transformative power of Christ in our lives. This verse calls us to embrace a holistic, Christ-centered approach to life, impacting not only our personal relationship with God but also our interactions with others and the world around us.

Psalm 40:1-3

To the choirmaster. A Psalm of David. I waited patiently for the Lord; he inclined to me and heard my cry. He drew me up from the pit of destruction, out of the miry bog, and set my feet upon a rock, making my steps secure. He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God. Many will see and fear, and put their trust in the Lord.
