Desert Springs Community Church Encouraging believers to engage with God, connect with others and live on mission

06/01/2026

Sin never leads anywhere good. As we wrapped up our journey through Romans 4:9–8:13 this past weekend, we were challenged and encouraged to live out a faith that is active and growing. A faith that is shaped by the peace and hope we have in Christ, grounded in freedom from sin, and marked by what the Gospel truly means.

We’ll jump back into Romans this fall, but this summer we’re diving into a new series on worship called Holy Roar 🦁 We’d love to have you join us as this series starts on Sunday!

What part of this section of Romans challenged you the most?

This week on Resident Strangers, Steve, Rich, and Sarah continue their conversation on what the Bible says about su***de, addressing the question: If a Christian dies by su***de, do they still go to heaven? Looking at Scripture and briefly touching on Catholic perspectives, the discussion ultimately points back to salvation through faith in Jesus Christ alone. They also talk about the deep grief surrounding su***de, the reality of suffering in a broken world, and the role of counseling and medication in mental health. Throughout it all, the conversation reminds us that God is our ultimate source of comfort and hope. Check out Episode 147 of Resident Strangers on YouTube or wherever you listen to podcasts 🎧

“So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day. For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal.” 2 Corinthians 4:16-18

A new Resident Strangers mini-series began this week! Over the next eight weeks, Steve, Rich, and Sarah will explore some of today’s most searched and challenging topics through the lens of Scripture, spending two weeks on each subject.

The series opens with a deeply sensitive conversation on su***de. With great care, the team discusses rising despair, the lasting impact many have felt since 2020, and the real grief surrounding su***de. Rich shares a personal story of loss relating to su***de, while Steve points to the reality of spiritual warfare and the importance of taking every thought captive.

This is a thoughtful and hope-filled conversation about leaning on the Lord, trusting His Word, and staying connected to His people. Join us next week as the discussion continues with a closer look at what Scripture says on this important topic.

The church is not simply a place we come to consume. It is a place we come to participate.

Here, we celebrate and grieve together. We listen, learn, worship, and serve. We grow in faith and in community. There is something truly special about a body of believers committed to Christ and to one another.

The church is more than a gathering. It’s a family walking together in faith.

Because these topics can feel strange or unsettling, believers often avoid them or miss the supernatural depth woven throughout Scripture.

Steve reflects on how hesitant many people are to wrestle with spiritual realities, even those found in the Gospel accounts. Trevor revisits last week’s discussion on the Nephilim, shares additional passages worth studying, and discusses the historical Jewish belief that the spirits of the Nephilim became what we know as demons in Jesus’ day. The group also explores possible connections between the Joshua Campaign and the demonic realm.

Throughout the episode, Trevor argues that if something in Scripture seems weird, it’s probably important. Steve emphasizes keeping our eyes fixed on Christ while exploring difficult topics, a perspective Sarah and Trevor wholeheartedly agree with. There’s a lot packed into this 30-minute conversation, so you may want to listen twice.
