"Blind" Faith...
Hebrews 11:1 "Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see." And boy, was I ever a witness to exactly that quite a few years ago. Because we live 2 dirt roads off the main road, dial up was what we had to provide our Internet. As wireless was becoming more readily available we contacted a company to come out and run a test to see if it would be an option for us. When they arrived I could see there were 3 people in the van. They all got out, 2 men and a woman. One of the men put the ladder up on the backside of the garage while the woman brought out the equipment to do the testing. She then took the third man by the arm and walked him to the ladder. It was then that I realized that a blind man was about to climb that ladder up to my roof and my anxiety went through said roof. Now here is where "blind" faith comes in... As he made his way moving around on the roof, his wife would tell him where he was on the roof and how far or close he was to the edge, how many feet he had before my fear could became a reality. He trusted her direction and instructions... confident in the assurance that she would keep him safely on that roof.
When it comes to Jesus, are we just as confident as that man in what He has promised and find assurance in what He has already done? Do we have faith even though we cannot see what is to come? Walking through this earthly life can be much what it was like for that man on my garage roof. Even though we cannot see what is to come, we trust the Bible filled with God's direction and instructions and confidently step our way. Or like this man's testing equipment, we can ignore what His word tells us, blindly thinking we can do this on our own and come crashing down to the sidewalk below. I myself, being afraid of heights, try to choose to walk by faith and not by sight because Satan would love nothing more than to see me fall.
Oh and by the way, if you are wondering about the man on my roof? After losing his equipment, he, with his wife's guidance, made it safely down but I must say understandably, not in the same mood as when he went up.
