“What Is It Like to Experience the Holy Spirit?” (1 Corinthians 13:1–7)

On Pentecost Sunday, we remember the coming of the Holy Spirit in Acts chapter 2. The disciples gathered together in prayer, and the Holy Spirit came upon them in powerful ways. There were extraordinary signs and experiences that people could not easily explain.

Because of this, people often wonder: What does it actually mean to experience the Holy Spirit?
Some expect dramatic miracles or emotional experiences. Others feel uncertain or cautious about those things.

In this week’s message, we will reflect on a more biblical picture of the Holy Spirit. The work of the Spirit is not only found in dramatic moments. The clearest sign of the Holy Spirit is a changed heart becoming more like Jesus.

In both the Old Testament and the New Testament, the Holy Spirit shaped people not only with ability, but with God’s character—humility, patience, wisdom, reconciliation, and love. The Spirit brought unity among people from different backgrounds and taught them to care for one another as one community.

Sometimes the Holy Spirit works in extraordinary ways. Sometimes the Spirit works quietly. But in both cases, the result is the same: our desires begin to change. We begin to seek forgiveness, restore relationships, love others more deeply, and live more like Christ.

As Paul reminds us in 1 Corinthians 13, even the greatest spiritual gifts mean nothing without love. A Spirit-filled life is ultimately a life shaped by the love and character of Jesus.

“Why Details Matter in Living as God’s People” (Exodus 22:5–15)

When God brought Israel out of Egypt, He did more than rescue them from slavery. He gave them a new identity: “You are My people.” But God did not stop there. He also taught them how to live as His people.

In Exodus 22, we read detailed instructions about responsibility, property, honesty, and caring for one another. At first glance, these laws may seem overly specific. But through them, God was guiding His people to live together in peace, Shalom.

The Israelites came from different tribes, backgrounds, and customs. Others who followed them out of Egypt also brought different values and ways of life. Without a shared standard, conflict would grow. So God gave them clear direction—not to burden them, but to protect them and build a community shaped by justice, responsibility, and peace.

This week, as we celebrate membership together, we are reminded that being God’s people is not simply about believing privately. It is about learning to live together under God’s guidance. Our prayers, presence, gifts, service, and witness are not a checklist, but practices that help shape us into a people who reflect God’s mercy, faithfulness, and love in everyday life.

“When I Cannot Feel God’s Hand in My Life” (Isaiah 49:13–16)

There are seasons when God feels distant. We pray, but nothing seems to change. We wait, but answers do not come as we expect. In those moments, a quiet question rises in our hearts, “Has God forgotten me?”

In Isaiah 49, God’s people felt the same way. Living in exile, far from home, they believed they had been abandoned. Yet in that very moment, God spoke words that reshaped their understanding: “I will not forget you… I have engraved you on the palms of my hands.”

This week’s message invites us to look beyond what we feel and remember who God is. God’s presence is not measured by our emotions or circumstances. Even when we cannot clearly see his hand, his commitment to us does not change.

As we reflect on this passage, especially on Mother’s Day and in this season of graduation, we are reminded that God’s love is steady, personal, and enduring. We may pass through uncertain seasons, but we are not forgotten. We remain held, remembered, and guided by God.

“Baptism and Confirmation: Our Yes to God” (Mark 1:9-13)

This Sunday, we celebrate Confirmation Sunday as several students publicly profess their faith in Christ, and some also receive baptism. Baptism is a public “Yes” to following Jesus. Confirmation is a way of saying, “The faith I received is now becoming my own.”

In this week’s Scripture, Jesus Himself is baptized in the Jordan River. Though He had no sin, He chose baptism as a public “Yes” to humility, obedience, and God’s mission for His life. At that moment, heaven opened, the Holy Spirit descended, and the Father declared, “You are my beloved Son.”

But immediately after baptism, Jesus entered the wilderness. This reminds us that faith does not remove all challenges. There are still moments of temptation, confusion, and struggle. Yet even in the wilderness, God did not abandon Jesus, and God does not abandon us.

This week’s message invites us to reflect on our own faith journey. Baptism and confirmation are not about becoming perfect people. They are about saying “Yes” to walking with Jesus day by day, trusting that God continues to guide, strengthen, and shape us through every season of life.
