Friday, June 5: God’s blessings on your weekend! It was good to worship our Lord together with a number of your Wednesday evening, and spend time in the word with some of you in Bible Class yesterday morning. Some neat news: We now have 18 youth and 4 chaperones signed up to go to the Youth Rally in late July. (I am one of those chaperones, and I am much looking forward to it!)
A passage to think about: Psalm 24:1 (NIV)- “The earth is the LORD’s, and everything in it; the world and all who live in it.” Think of how much this one truth means: For your very existence, you have the Lord to thank; for all the good things you enjoy in this world, you have the Lord to thank; whatever God lets you possess in this world belongs to him- you are just the manager of it for a while, and to be a good manager means to use it in the way he wants you to; all that belongs to your neighbor also belongs to God, so if you cheat your neighbor out of his possessions, you are not just sinning against your neighbor, your are defying God, who chose to let your neighbor be the manager of that part of God’s possessions; your own body is not yours to do with it whatever your sinful flesh feels like at the moment- it belongs to God, and it is precious to him, and he wants you to use it in the good ways in which he guides you by his word and leads you by his Holy Spirit, who lives in you. How good it is that the same LORD to whom all things belong is the one who loved you so that he sent his Son to pay for all your sins against him to whom all things belong, so you might be more than his possession, but his dear child, forever!
People to pray for:
-Thank God for letting Dave Burfeind improve enough in health to make it home again, and pray for God to continue to watch over him there.
-Thank God for letting Elroy Strusz improve enough to make it out of the hospital and to a stint for rehab at Benedictine Nursing Home in Hastings, and pray for his continued recuperation.
-Keep praying for Minde Rude in her battle against pancreatic cancer that is also in her liver.
-Keep praying for God’s guidance for Pastor Mark Reichert with the call to Christ, Zumbrota.
-Keep praying for all others who are sick and suffering.
Coming up:
-Women’s Bible Study at St. John’s tomorrow at 8:30 a.m.
-Choir Practice for the joint Volksfest Choir tomorrow at Grace at 9:30 a.m. (We could use more singers; please come and join us if interested, and encourage others to come!) We will plan for an additional practice before the service on the morning of Volksfest Service.
-This Sunday we have Worship Service at 8:30 a.m. at Grace, and at 10:15 a.m. at St. Peter’s. We will have communion at both locations, since we will not have communion at the Volksfest Service the following week.
Looking ahead:
-Since Pastor Weigand will be coming back from District Convention in New Ulm this coming Wednesday Evening, Pastoral Assistant Ben Raasch will conduct the Wednesday evening service.
-Council Meetings are next week Thursday, at Grace, with Grace Council Meeting at 6:30 p.m. and St. Peter’s Council Meeting at 7:30 p.m. (Those times were mistakenly switched around in the June Calendar.)
-Volksfest is coming up- Burrito Breakfast, car show and quilting at SP on Saturday, May 13; and Joint Worship Service Sunday at Goodhue Gym 1 at 9 a.m. (Guest Preacher Stephen Schmiel- Minnesota District Mission Board Chairman)
-Family VBS is coming up the evenings of June 16-18. Invite your friends of all ages to join us!
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ fill your hearts with peace today and every day!
Your brother in Christ, Pastor Marty Weigand

Wednesday, June 3: God’s blessings on the middle of your week! I hope you’ve been able to get out and enjoy the beautiful days God has been giving us, and that you will today. A quick correction to the calendar- for the Council Meetings on Thursday, June 11 at Grace- Grace will meet first, at 6:30 p.m., St. Peter’s Council will meet at 7 p.m. (I had it turned around in the calendar.)
A passage to think about: Luke 8:4,11 (NIV)- “A farmer went out to sow his seed. … This is the meaning of the parable: The seed is the word of God.” This is an excerpt from Jesus’ parable of the Sower and the Seed. When you share the word of God with others, you are sowing seeds. Just like the seeds a farmer or gardener sows in the ground, not everyone of them comes up, and you may not see the results of the sowing in plants coming up where you sowed seed until some time after the seed went into the ground, so not every person with whom you share the word of God will receive it with a believing heart; and where the word does change a persons heart, so that they come to faith in Christ, or are strengthened in faith, or their faith bears fruit in good works- you won’t necessarily see the results right away. Don’t let that stop you from sowing seeds! Keep sowing, and leave the results to God.
People to pray for:
-Thank God for bringing Jessi Robbert safely through a successful knee replacement surgery, and pray for a good recuperation.
-Thank God for giving Dave Burfeind considerable improvement and pray that this will continue; and pray for continued improvement for Elroy Strusz, and continued strengthening for Larry Holst, who is back at work.
-Keep asking God for his guidance for Pastor Mark Reichert (not Dave- sorry for that error in a previous Daily Thought) of Beaver Dam, WI, as he considers the call to Christ, Zumbrota.
-Pray for God’s blessings on our preparation for the Volksfest Service and related events, and that they all may bring glory to our Savior, and the service may give strengthening and encouragement in the faith in Jesus and in spreading his word.
Coming up:
-Area WELS joint choir practice tonight at Grace at 6 p.m. We are practicing several numbers to get ready to sing them at the Volksfest Service.
-Wednesday Worship Service tonight at Grace at 7 p.m. We will be having Communion this week and not next week.
-Thursday Midweek Bible Class is tomorrow at St. Peter’s at 10:30 a.m. I am up to teach lesson the final lesson of the series, “Living my Life as a Christian.” This week’s lesson is “Living my Life as a Member of God’s Church.”
-This Sunday we have Worship Service at 8:30 a.m. at Grace, and at 10:15 a.m. at St. Peter’s. We will have communion at both locations, since we will not have communion at the Volksfest Service the following week.
The love of God, the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, fill your heart today and through the week!
Your brother in Christ, Pastor Marty Weigand

Monday, June 1: The Lord’s blessings on you in this new month! It was great to worship our Lord together with many of you yesterday! Congratulations to all our graduates: High School Graduates: Cain Lexvold and Riley Redepenning from Zumbrota-Mazeppa; , Emilee Majerus and Sofia Lodermeier from Goodhue; Andrew Voight (home-schooled); and Morgan Luhman from Triton. Those receiving college level degrees/certifications- Darby Miller, who graduated with Bachelor’s Degree from Montana State, Martha Voight, who received an Associates degree as Executive Administrative Specialist; and Andrew Voight, who received and Associates degree as Industrial Engineering Technician. May God lead you to use your knowledge and talents to serve him and the people around you well; and keep you safe and growing in the faith in Christ!
A passage to think about: Psalm 145:1-2 (NIV) – “I will exalt you, my God the King; I will praise your name for ever and ever. Every day I will praise you and extol your name for ever and ever.” Because of his love and salvation in Christ, we will get to praise his name for ever and ever. But you don’t have to wait until you are in heaven to extol his name. Every day on earth, including today, gives you a chance to praise your God and Savior- in your words to others, in how you treat and serve those around you, and with thoughts of thanks to him and songs of praise to him in your heart. Praise him today!
People to pray for:
-Thank God for bringing Larry Holst home from the hospital after he was admitted with a stroke in one eye and some other issues. Thank God for some improvement in this vision, and ask for continued healing in all his health issues, and strength from God for his work, and people to help out while he is regaining his strength.
-Pray for Dave Burfeind, in the hospital at St. Mary’s healing from an infected wound and receiving care to help his heart work more easily. Thank God for the improvement he has already had and pray for it to continue; and for God to continue to keep him strong in the faith in Christ.
-Pray for Elroy Strusz, in the hospital at Red Wing recovering from an injection he came down with, that God will strengthen him to come home again and provide all the help he needs.
-Pray for God’s guidance for Pastor Dave Reichert of Beaver Dam, WI, as he considers the call he is holding to Christ, Zumbrota.
-Pastor Todd Engel has accepted the call to our congregation in Duluth; he plans for his last Sunday at Red Wing to be on June 28. Pray for God’s blessings on his remaining service in our area, and in his new field of service in Duluth!

-We have our usual summer schedule this summer, with worship at Grace at 8:30 a.m. and at St. Peter’s at 10:15 a.m.
-If any of our youth are interested in going to the Rally this summer and haven’t already registered, it’s not too late to do so. Contact Emily Raasch or myself if interested. The sooner the better if you want to travel with the rest of us on the bus that will be giving us a ride.
I will be contacting those I know of who can play a band instrument with us for a couple of hymns for the Volksfest Service. If you play an instrument, or know one of our members who does that I don’t know about, please contact me so they too can be asked.
May the joy of our Lord in his great works fill your heart today and through the week!
Your brother in Christ, Pastor Marty Weigand

Friday, May 29: God’s blessings on your weekend! It was great to see 12 people gathered around God’s word and enjoying fellowship with each other at Midweek Bible Class yesterday morning. Remember that this class continues all through the summer. It was also great to worship our Lord with a number of you Wednesday evening, and enjoy fellowship afterwards as we celebrated our graduate. Remember that this Sunday at Grace we are doing the same for the rest of our grads.
A passage to think about: 1 Corinthians 15:42-43 (NIV) – “So will it be with the resurrection of the dead. The body that is sown is perishable, it is raised imperishable; it is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory; it is sown in weakness, it is raised in power.” This time of year we see the glorious results of sowing dried up brown seeds into the ground- beautiful plants spring up from the earth, alive, much greater than the seed that was sown, and often bearing gloriously beautiful flowers. What a beautiful picture of the resurrection of the dead that we look forward to! Today the body of one of our sisters in Christ will be “sown” in the ground in the cemetery behind Grace. Thanks to Jesus, how different and how glorious her body will be when our Lord comes again and calls her forth from the earth on the last day! And in Jesus, you can look forward to the same.
People to pray for:
-Keep praying for God’s comfort for the family of LaVonne Scharpen, and that todays funeral service will give that comfort we have in Christ to many.
-Pray for God’s help and strength for Minde Rude, sister-in-law of Grace members Ty and Kelsey Schulz. She is suffering from pancreatic and liver cancer. Above all pray that God keep her strong in the faith in Christ through all this.
-Pray for God’s guidance for Pastor Dave Reichert of Beaver Dam, WI, as he considers the call he is holding to Christ, Zumbrota; and pray for God’s guidance for Pastor Todd Engel of St. John’s, Red Wing, as he considers the call to our WELS congregation in Duluth.
Coming up:
-Funeral for LaVonne Scharpen is today at 10:30 a.m. at Grace; with visitation from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Burial at Grace cemetery after the service. Luncheon to follow at noon at Zumbrota VFW. Wednesday, May 27: The Lord bless the middle of your week! It was good to worship him as one of 14 at the service yesterday at Goodhue Senior Living.
A passage to think about: Genesis 1:11 (NIV) – “Then God said, `Let the land produce vegetation: seed-bearing plants and trees that bear fruit with seed in it, according to their various kinds.’ And it was so.” I love this time of year, when so many different plants are flowering and growing- both in the wild, and in gardens and flowerbeds. I’m guessing many of you do as well. If so, remember who gave us these gifts! God, the Creator of all things- the one who through Jesus is your dear Father, and he loves you!
People to pray for:
-Thank God for the service of Susie Matthees as Activities Director at Goodhue Senior Living. This Friday is her last day at that job. She has served the residents there very well in that position and added much cheer to their lives; she was also instrumental in asking us to begin holding the worship services at Goodhue Senior Living that we have been doing for a number of years.
-Keep praying for comfort for the family of LaVonne Scharpen, who went home to be with her Savior last Friday.
-Keep praying for Shelley Poncelet, and her daughter Tiffanie Anderson, for God’s strength as they go through life with chronic heart health issues.
-Pray for all others who are sick and suffering.
Coming up:
-Area WELS singers meet for the first time at Grace at 6 p.m. tonight in the education room. We will start practicing songs for the Volksfest Service. This group is open to any area WELS members who like to sing God’s praises and would enjoy singing along with others, including singing in parts like in a choir. We plan to meet Wednesday evenings at 6 p.m. You don’t have to commit to come every week in order to take part; just come when it works for you.
-Wednesday Worship Service tonight at Grace at 7 p.m.
-Thursday Midweek Bible Class at St. Peter’s at 10:30 a.m.
-Closing of the School Year and Graduation Service for St. John’s School at St. John’s Thursday evening at 6:30 p.m.
-Visitation for LaVonne Scharpen is this Thursday from 4-7 p.m. at Mahn’s in Zumbrota, plus one hour before the funeral service on Friday.

Monday, May 25, Memorial Day: God’s blessings on you and yours this Memorial Day! I thank him for the privilege of worshiping him along with many of you yesterday! Let us also thank him for the beautiful weather we enjoyed yesterday and are enjoying today!
A passage to think about: John 15:13 (NIV) “Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.” On Memorial Day we make a point of honoring those who laid down their life for their buddies and their country on the field of battle, while serving in the armed forces of our nation- and rightly so. But how much greater is Christ’s love for them and for us- that he laid down his life intentionally, on the cross, when we were still his enemies, in order to pay for our sins and make us his friends, and the friends of his heavenly Father. Thank you, Jesus, for your great love and sacrifice!
People to pray for:
-Thank God for the service and sacrifice of the men and women who risked and gave their lives in service of the armed forces of our nation, and the blessings of freedom and peace and safety he has secured to us through their service.
-Pray for God’s help and comfort for the surviving family members of the soldiers who so gave their lives.
-Pray for God’s comfort for the family of Grace member LaVonne Scharpen, and thank God for keeping her in the faith in Jesus unto eternal life, that he soul is now enjoying. God called her soul from this world this past Friday morning. The funeral service is planned for this week Friday at Grace at 10:30 a.m. Visitation will be at Grace an hour before the service, and also Thursday from 4-7 p.m. at Mahn’s Funeral Home in Zumbrota.
-Thanks to God for strengthening the body of St. Peter’s member Elroy Strusz so that he was able to return home after his stay in the Lake City Nursing home for rehabilitation, and pray for God to keep watching over him now that he’s home again.
Coming up:
-Goodhue Senior Living Worship Service tomorrow (Tuesday) at 10:30 a.m. (I’m up to lead the service.)
-Area WELS singers meet for the first time at Grace at 6 p.m. this Wednesday in the education room. We will start practicing songs for the Volksfest Service. This group is open to any area WELS members who like to sing God’s praises and would enjoy singing along with others, including singing in parts like in a choir. 05/22/2026

Friday, May 22: The Lord’s blessings on your Memorial Day weekend! It was a joy to worship our Lord together with over 30 of you Wednesday evening; and what fun it was to see 26 of our area WELS high school youth and friends together at our last High School Bible Breakfast of the year. Thanks, Ben and Derek, for firing up your griddles and cooking for the crew!
A passage to think about: Ephesians 6:4 (NIV)- “Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.” Since your kids will soon be done with school for the year, you may have more time with them. How are you going to use that time to drive home to them how good it is, and how important it is, to keep the Lord Jesus in your daily life, and nourish and grow in your faith in him? If you haven’t thought about it, give it some thought. One of the biggest things you can do is teach them by example. If nourishing your faith in the Lord is important enough that your kids see dad taking time to nourish his faith (Personal devotions or Bible reading? Making sure you get to church regularly in spite of vacation plans and stuff to do- even going to a different service time at one of our churches on a week when you will be doing something else at your usual worship time? Talking with them about things you learned or things that really struck you in the service or in your devotion or Bible reading)- then they will be much more likely to get the message- “This is really important” and “catch” the good habits you set by example.
People to pray for:
-LaVonne Scharpen- on hospice care for her terminal cancer, growing weaker, and seeming very near to the end of her earthly life, that God will give her relief from pain, comfort in her Savior, and in accord with her wishes, soon call her to the heavenly home he has waiting for her.
-Those serving in the armed forces of our country, for God’s protection for them and their families, and that he may use whatever hardships and dangers they face to remind them of their need for him and draw them closer to him.
Coming up:
-Remember that4 p.m. Worship on Saturdays at St. John’s is an alternative when neither Wednesday night or Sunday morning will work for you.
-Sunday Worship Services- 8:30 a.m. at Grace and 10:15 a.m. at St. Peter’s.
-This Sunday is Pentecost, when we remember the coming of the Holy Spirit on Jesus’ disciples. The sermon will focus on the special gifts that the Holy Spirit has given to us, now.
Note: We would like to recognize our graduates in the services next week Wednesday and a week from Sunday. Please get the names of college graduates to our church secretary, if you haven’t already done so.
May the peace of Christ rule in your hearts today and through the extended weekend!
Your brother in Christ, Pastor Marty Weigand

Wednesday, May 20: God bless the middle of your week! Thanks to him for the sunshine! Hope you can get out and enjoy it. It’s neat to see that we have 14 youth from our Goodhue WELS YPS signed up to go to the Youth Rally this summer. It’s not too late to add to that number. Registration and transportation costs will be covered by Grace Lutheran and St. Peter’s Lutheran for our members. For more info and to sign up, please contact YPS Coordinator Emily Raasch (651-301-1494). We would like to have all registrations in before June 1, when the price goes up; and the sooner the better to make sure there will be a seat for you on the chartered bus(es) arranged by other congregation(s) that we are getting a ride on. To see what is planned at the rally, check out the LYA website: https://els.org/lya/
A passage to think about:
Psalm 1:2-3 (NIV) “His delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season, and whose leaf does not wither.” How can you get more of God’s word in your head and heart so that you can meditate on it day and night? Daily devotions? Daily Bible reading? (or listening to it on your device); Listening to Christian music? Whatever way helps you do this, God will bless you through it.
People to pray for:
-Keep remembering LaVonne Scharpen, on hospice care with cancer at Goodhue Senior Living.
-Pray for Gerald and Karen Puppe, that they may receive the help and care they need, and strength from God, to be able to continue at their home.
-Keep praying for strengthening for Elroy Strusz and Miriam Hinrichs, currently recuperating and rehabbing at the Lake City Nursing Home.
Coming up:
-Grace Inreach Task Force meets tonight at 6 p.m. at Grace.
-7 p.m. Wednesday Worship service tonight at Grace
-7:15-7:45 a.m. Thursday- one more final High School Bible Breakfast downstairs at St. Peter’s church (not at the parsonage)- 8th Graders are welcome, and feel free to bring a friend or two.
-10:30 a.m.- Midweek Bible Study at St. Peter’s. Pastor Robbert is up to teach.
Looking ahead:
-Remember that4 p.m. Worship on Saturdays at St. John’s is an alternative when neither Wednesday night or Sunday morning will work for you.
-Sunday Worship Services- 8:30 a.m. at Grace and 10:15 a.m. at St. Peter’s.
-This Sunday is Pentecost, when we remember the coming of the Holy Spirit on Jesus’ disciples. What special gifts has the Holy Spirit given you that you can use to serve others. You might think he hasn’t done anything like that for you, but he has! Listen to the sermon this week and learn about it.
God’s grace and peace be with you!

Monday, May 18: The Lord’s blessings on your new week! It was good to see this morning that God blessed us with needed rain overnight. It was also good to be blessed along with many of you to worship our Lord and have him rain down on us the blessings of his word in church, Bible Class and Sunday School yesterday. It was also great to hear that we had a good attendance of men to be blessed through God’s word at Bible Breakfast on Saturday. Thanks to Martha Voight for organizing a special presentation, along with a fun last event for the last day of Sunday School at Grace this year. Martha has announced she will be stepping down as coordinator after this Sunday School year. Thanks, Martha, for your faithful service! Kelly Amundson is joining our YPS Leadership team as Grace representative, in place of Wendy Lexvold, who stepped down because her schedule wasn’t allowing her to participate as she wanted to. Welcome aboard, Kelly, and may God bless your service!
A passage to think about: Romans 12:4-6 (NIV) “Just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. We have different gifts, according to the grace given us.” What special gifts has God give you that you can use to serve your fellow Christians? Are you an idea person? An organizer? A teacher? An encourager? One who relates well to little kids? One who relates well to high school age youth? To senior citizens? Do you like to fix things, or clean things? Do you have quite a bit of time and flexibility of schedule? Think of how you can use those gifts to serve your brothers and sisters in Christ; then do so! God will bless you through your service even more than you bless others!
People to pray for:
-Keep praying for LaVonne Scharpen, as the cancer for which she has been on hospice care for some time causes her to grow weaker.
-Thank God for letting Lila Reese make it back to be at her husband’s side at Goodhue Senior Living, and pray that God let her continue there while getting the help and care she needs.
-Keep praying for strengthening for Elroy Strusz and Miriam Hinrichs while they continue their stay for recuperation and rehab at the Lake City Nursing Home.
-Pray for all others you know of who are sick and suffering, for God’s help and relief for them.
-Pray that God will cause the lessons our Sunday School kids learned this school year from his word remain in their hearts and bear fruit in their lives.

-Grace Inreach Task Force holds its first meeting at Grace this Wednesday at 6 p.m. If you are not already on the team but are interested in serving, please contact Ben Raasch or Pastor Weigand.
-Wednesday Worship Service at Grace at 7 p.m.
-High School Bible Breakfast this Thursday at 7:15 a.m. (Last of the year; 8th Graders are invited) We will have it downstairs at the church, rather than at the parsonage.
-Thursday Midweek Bible Class meets at 10:30 a.m., and will continue meeting through the summer. If you would like to come, but need a ride, please contact me or contact Norrie Voth (651) 923-4223 ahead of time; we would like to get more organized about rides so that all who need a ride can get one.
Looking ahead:
This coming Sunday is the first on our Summer Schedule. Grace service remains at 8:30 a.m.; St. Peter’s service moves up to 10:15 a.m.; There is no Sunday School or Sunday Bible Class. Remember that Wednesday Services at 7 p.m. at Grace, and 4 p.m. Saturday services at St. John’s are also options for making it to church on any week when it best fits your schedule. Both of those services are previews of the upcoming Sunday. St. John’s Red Wing has a Monday evening service that is a repeat of their Sunday Service.
The joy of the Lord fill your heart today and through the week!
Your brother in Christ, Pastor Marty Weigand
