What’s on your mind, part two.

Good morning, Emmanuel family and friends. In Romans 8:29, we read: “For whom He did foreknow, He also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the Firstborn among many brethren.” We often hear the word ‘predestination’ without stopping to think of the implications of the word. We know predestination means to “determine beforehand,” but how does that apply to Christianity? Has God really predestined some to go to heaven and some to hell? The answer is a resounding “NO!” God has predestined the benefits of accepting His salvation, but salvation itself is still a matter of individual choice. He gave us the freedom to choose where we will spend eternity when He said, “Whosoever will …” In His foreknowledge, He already knows those who will accept Him, but He is always at work attempting to bring us all to the point of receiving His precious gift of eternal life with Him. Have you made your choice? None of us know when death may come. God’s word tells us we need to choose this day between eternal life and death. To not make a decision is to choose death by default.

Good morning, Emmanuel family and friends. Galatians 6:15 tells us this: “For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision avails anything, but a new creation.” The message Paul was sending was very direct. Judaizers were trying to undo the work Paul had done in Galatia by requiring circumcision for salvation. Paul pointedly says circumcision isn’t what marks the spiritual person. Only one thing is required of anyone who is seeking a relationship with Jesus: The worldly, sinful person we become at birth must come to the point of realization that he, or she, does not meet the standard God has set for righteousness. Therefore, that person must die to self and become a new creature in Christ. That death and rebirth is marked by a change into a lifestyle which lines up with the Word of God, not with religious ideas and theories. Accepting a religious tag of any type is not enough to form the relationship Jesus wants with believers. We must become new Creations in Christ. In His love, Pastor Lynn

Good morning, Emmanuel family and friends. The Scriptural advice we have this morning is found in Psalm 127:2: “It is vain for you to rise up early, to sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrows; for so he gives His beloved sleep.” David is telling us the same thing in this vers that Jesus tells us in Matthew 6:27, only in different words. It is a useless, fruitless, wasted effort that avails nothing to stay up late, or get up early, worrying about something. When we partake of the bread of sorrow, we are so filled with worry and anxiety we don’t sleep and we won’t eat real food. David had learned that even in the midst of difficulties, worries, and anxieties, God would enable him to sleep peacefully and awake refreshed. He still gives His beloved sleep, but we must give Him all our worries and anxieties before we can receive it. Quit trying to find answers you don’t have and bring your worries and anxieties to our Lord. Come unto Him, and He will give you rest. Give God your "bread of sorrows," and find the peace and rest He has for you. In His love, Pastor Lynn

Good morning, Emmanuel family and friends. The Apostle Paul tells us this in 1 Corinthians 10:23: “All things are lawful for me, but not all things are helpful; all things are lawful for me, but not all things edify.” This verse is truth for those who walk with the Lord. Since we are no longer under the law, all things are lawful. Grace has freed us from having to obey the “mays” or “may nots” of life. But the warning imbedded in the verse is this: Even though we can do anything we want, not everything we do is conducive to our benefit or spiritual growth and well-being. In our walk with the Lord, He gives us the freedom to make choices every day. But as we read in the Book of Deuteronomy, those choices involve spiritual life or spiritual death. We can choose to do the wrong thing, but God has told us our choices have consequences. We are instructed in Scripture to choose those things which help us grow in grace and the knowledge of the Lord and those things that edify ourselves and others. Making bad choices still results in spiritual death. God’s Word says we are to choose life, not the curses brought on by bad choices. What is your choice? In His love, Pastor Lynn

Good morning, Emmanuel family and friends. “... And so it was, whenever they went out, that David behaved himself more wisely than all the servants of Saul, so that his name became highly esteemed.” :1 Samuel 18:30) In the verses just prior to this one, we see that Saul was very jealous of David and became David’s continual enemy. In spite of that, David continued to serve Saul faithfully and wisely. In doing so he established a pattern of behavior we would do well to emulate. In the New Testament, Paul encourages slaves to be faithful and work hard for their master, even if their master is not a benevolent one. When we behave wisely, regardless of our circumstances, we bring glory and honor to our Lord and Master, Jesus. Wise behavior requires humbling ourselves at times, but it leads to greater esteem from others and exaltation from God, who exalts the humble. In His love. Pastor Lynn

What’s on your mind?

Good morning, Emmanuel family and friends. 1 Chronicles 15: 2
“Hear me, … The Lord is with you while you are with Him. If you seek Him, He will be found by you; but if you forsake Him, He will forsake you.” This is a truth that “sometime Christians” tend to forget. God will not be mocked, and those who call on Him in their time of need, then forsake Him when everything is going well, will not see His blessings on their lives. The problem they have is that there is not a true commitment to God on their part. Israel fought an ongoing battle in this area, and we see many references in the Old Testament which tell us God was faithful to His covenants, but the Children of Israel were not. When they were unfaithful, God sent judgment- in the form of war, famine or captivity. Today, there are those who may be wondering why God isn’t answering their prayers. If they were to truly assess their relationship with Him, they would see they are “sometime Christians,” and they are not truly seeking God. God is longsuffering, but He will not hear those who are insincere in seeking Him. Give Him your whole heart, and He will never forsake you. In His love, Pastor Lynn

Good morning, Emmanuel family and friends. Elections interrupted yesterday's post, but we're back at it this morning. In Galatians 7:7, we read: "Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap.” The latter part of this verse has been used and abused profusely over the years. The abuse comes when we fail to keep in mind the context in which it is placed. Too often, this verse is used to promote financial investment into some project, or giving support and effort to some ministry of the church. While you may receive a reward for that investment, that really isn’t what Paul is saying here. In verses 1-10 of this chapter, Paul is teaching about our relationship with others. Basically, He is telling us if we are insincere in a relationship, it is a form of mockery to God. Our relationships should be motivated by a love that seeks what is best for others. To do otherwise is a mockery of God’s command to love one another. When we sow insincerity into a relationship, we will fail to receive what God intended. That relationship will end in failure, and the consequences will not be good. We may fool others, but we cannot fool God, and He will hold us accountable for our insincerity. Be sincere. It leads to having a God day. In His love, Pastor Lynn
