This is Jay. At the end of the service yesterday morning, August 13th, I read the following statement. I reproduce it here to inform the rest of our FBC Goliad family of big upcoming changes. Lisa and I love you and are grateful to God for the chance to serve alongside you!

Lisa and I have been privileged to live and serve among you here at First Baptist Church, Goliad for over 15 years. There have been a few struggles along the way, and a whole lot of blessings! Together we have touched our community and our world in Jesus’ name, again and again.
But in recent days we have felt God’s strong leading to another assignment in his Kingdom work. The Shiner Baptist Church has called us to come and be their pastor, and we have accepted that call. Therefore this announcement serves as a two-week notice of a transition process beginning now. Our last Sunday with you will be August 27th, and our first in Shiner will be September 3rd.
We have shared that decision with several of you, and we regret that time didn’t give us the opportunity to have that conversation with even more. All have responded along the same lines – first saying some variation of “No!”, and then the gracious acknowledgement that if God has called us, we must be obedient. And so we must be – with a strange mixture of heartache and excitement. We love you dearly, but our first allegiance is to God and the call he placed upon our lives many years ago.
This announcement obviously begins a process for First Baptist Goliad as well. You have great leaders to guide you in that process, and in due time you will be selecting a committee from among yourselves to seek your next pastor. Begin now to bathe that process in prayer. We pledge to you our prayers as well. Thank you for your 15+ years of support!
