It was decided to call the new church the New Christian Church until another named could be decided on. The first church service was held on August 15, 1965 in The old Stanley Funeral Home on the corner of South James Street and West Chestnut St. Henderson, was the first pastor. There were 81 in attendance for Sunday School, and a total of 104 for that first church service. The charter book was op
ened that day with 49 members signing the book. On December 1st 1965 we purchased the land at 600 Patetown Road, in Goldsboro, where our church now sits. At a congregational meeting held on June 13,1966 , the church voted that the new name for our church would be Northview Christian Church. On January 22, 1967, the first service was held in the new Northview Christian Church building on Patetown Rd. Henderson officiating. At a special congregational meeting held on Sunday August 1st, 1999, it was decided because of the Disciple Of Christ's decision to be a part of the Consultation on Church Union ( CoCu ) that we would look into the idea of breaking away from the denomination. Information had been collected and presented to the congregation for study and review. On November 26, 2000 it was voted by the congregation, that we would leave the Disciples of Christ Denomination. And on July 14 2002, the congregation voted unanimously to become a part of the Southern Baptist Denomination and to be affiliated with the Neuse Baptist Association. On October 29, 2002 Northview was voted into the Neuse Baptist Association of Wayne County. At a congregational meeting held on November 24, 2002 it was voted by the members that we would change our name to Northview Baptist Church ( a Southern Baptist Congregation ). One of the strongest Christian endeavors of Northview is the unselfish giving and sharing with others. Some of the programs and offerings supported are, The United Church Ministries with food and supporting their Walk for the Hunger, the Battered Women's shelter, the annual Blanket Drive, Baptist Children's Home, The Annie Armstrong Missionary Fund, Lottie Moon Missionary Fund, the Local Christian TV Station-WHFL, Samaritan's Purse Missionary and we also support local and foreign missionaries. Northview has struggled through many tough times. But we have persevered with God by our side. Northview is proud of its history which inspired and continues to guide this congregation to serve others by establishing our Lord and Savior as first in our lives.
