There’s a place that I go to when I’m distressed.

When I worry.

When I am anxious.

When I am overcome with fear.

I focus on the one thing I can control:

My breath.

And I ask God to meet me right there.

And, without fail, I feel His presence.

He doesn’t instantly solve my problems.

He doesn’t magically send the pain away.

But I surrender my control to Him.

You are God.
You know what to do.

And I feel stronger.

And I find His way to survive.

Today, I pray in those moments where you feel most threatened and stressed.

You will remember your breath.

As you inhale, invite God’s power in.

As you exhale, release Your will to His.

He will carry you.
He will care for you.

So we say with confidence,
“The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid.
What can mere mortals do to me?”
[Hebrews 13:6]

You worry that it won’t work out.

Or that it will never happen.

Because you don’t want your dreams to be crushed.

And once fear takes root, it is difficult to release.

But God wants you to know that His plan is greater than any giant you face.

And His steps will never be thwarted by your trials.

Because God calls you to live not in the shadow of your fear.

But in the unending light of His faithfulness.

He will do what He has promised.

He will lead you to your very best life.

But you have to let go of the stress and let God be your stronghold.

Because God created your heart.

And God will show it the way.

Pain and heartbreak are hard. But I’m learning we must not resist the blessing of brokenness that tills the ground of our heart. Breaking up the unplowed ground of our heart makes it ready for new life, new growth and new maturity that can’t be found any other way.

And in the midst of all that leaves our hearts aching, we must seek God like never before. Part of seeking Him is allowing for grace space in our life — granting God’s grace a space in our mind, our heart, our life.

When circumstances of life leak us dry, we can see this emptiness as an opportunity. Instead of reacting out of emptiness, we can choose to see that this emptiness is the perfect spot for a space of grace in life.
