Chapel in the Hills

Chapel in the Hills Preaching Christ crucified through the faithful exposition of Scripture, for the glory of God and the building up of His church.

At the Chapel you will find…
-Expository Sermons in which the Person and work of Jesus is the center. True expository preaching just doesn’t unpack information and leave you with stuff to do, it unpacks Jesus and His Gospel. The focus is on Him and what He has done for us on our behalf and that shapes our identity and empowers us to live in light of that truth.

-A loving Christ centered

community that is inviting and encouraging. At the Chapel we are not a church of families, we are a church family and we have plenty of room for you!

-Worship music that is about God and not us. When we come together as a church family and sing, our God is the audience and we love to shout His praises. The music is a mixture of contemporary worship songs blended with tried and true hymns.

-Prayer – we are a praying church that seeks to draw near to God in prayer. We believe in the power of prayer and we pray like we do!

-Communion – All Christ-followers are encouraged to take the bread and wine, and use it to remember what Jesus did for us.

Nahum confronts us with the majesty of a God who is holy, sovereign, and just. He is patient with sinners, yet He will by no means clear the guilty.

He is a refuge for His people and a righteous Judge over all the earth.

The same Lord before whom mountains quake is the One who welcomes all who flee to Him in faith.

In Christ, justice is satisfied and mercy is freely given.

Watch Pastor Chris Stevenson preach through Nahum 1:2–8 'The Awe-Inspiring Judge' and be reminded that the Lord is glorious in all His ways—perfect in justice, abundant in mercy, and faithful to His people.

Nahum puts Yahweh’s character and nature on display before us. And as God’s character is displayed in this passage, we are reminded that every person must reckon with who He is.

“If we are to declare the truth of the gospel, we must understand the depths of the bad news.”
– Pastor Chris Stevenson

The book of Nahum reminds us that the God of Scripture is holy, just, merciful, and full of righteous wrath against sin.

We live in a time where many want a softened version of God, yet the glory of the gospel is seen most clearly when we understand what Christ actually saved us from.

This sermon on Nahum 1:1-7 | 'Meet the True God' was an always needed reminder that God does not overlook evil, He does not forget His people, and His justice is never separated from His mercy.

Dear all,

We pray this Memorial Day has been a meaningful time of rest and reflection as we remember those who gave their lives in service to our country.

We wanted to send a quick update that we will not be meeting this coming Tuesday, May 26.

Lord willing, we will resume on Tuesday, June 2.

In the meantime, we encourage you to continue reading:

1. Calvin’s Institutes, Chapter 3, pp. 120–133.
In these pages, Calvin begins walking through the commandments themselves and unfolds their implications not only for outward obedience, but for worship, the heart, and the whole of the Christian life.

2. For those who would like some “extra credit,” we would also suggest reading Questions 91–110 of the Westminster Larger Catechism:

https://thewestminsterstandard.org/westminster-larger-catechism/ #91

These questions deal particularly with the moral law and the first two commandments, and many of them were later reproduced in the 1689 Baptist Catechism. The resource above is especially helpful because it includes abundant proof texts with conveniently linked Scripture references.

We pray the reading is fruitful for you all this week.

Grace and peace,

Today we remember the men and women who gave their lives in service to this nation.

The freedoms we have enjoyed in this country are a gift of God’s grace, and they have come at great cost.

We give thanks for those who willingly served and sacrificed, while holding in prayer and honor the families who still carry that grief.

From all of us at Chapel in the Hills, we remember this Memorial Day.
