Everything is ready. The invitation has gone out.

In Matthew 22:1–14, Jesus tells the parable of the wedding feast, showing the gracious invitation of the King, the danger of rejecting His call, and the necessity of coming to Him on His terms.

This sermon reminds us that the gospel invitation is generous and sincere, but it must not be ignored or treated lightly. The King has prepared the feast. The only fitting response is repentance, faith, and submission to Christ.

How should Christians respond when the truth is opposed?

In 2 Timothy 2:23–26, Paul reminds Timothy that the servant of the Lord must not be quarrelsome, but must be kind, patient, able to teach, and gentle in correction. Faithfulness to the truth is not only seen in what we say, but also in the spirit with which we say it.

Join us tomorrow at Chapel in the Hills as we continue our study through 2 Timothy in "The Presentation of His Truth, Part 2" (2 Timothy 2:23–26).

Paul reminds us that faithful ministry requires more than sound doctrine. We are called to bear the likeness of our Master in the way we respond to opposition, conflict, and those who are trapped in error. At the same time, we are reminded that repentance is not something we can produce through argument or persuasion. It is a gift God sovereignly grants.

Come be encouraged by God's Word as we consider what it means to bear Christ's character and faithfully leave the results in His hands.

How must the redeemed worship God?

There is a great danger in spending our lives examining the condition of everyone else while neglecting our own soul.

In 2 Timothy 2, Paul writes to a young pastor surrounded by false teaching, conflict, and spiritual compromise. Yet his charge falls first upon Timothy himself:

“Let everyone who names the name of the Lord depart from iniquity.”

Before Timothy concerns himself with the failures around him, he must concern himself with holiness before God.

The Christian life is lived coram Deo—before the face of God. Are we putting sin to death? Are we fleeing youthful passions? Are we pursuing righteousness, faith, love, and peace?

God prepares His servants through sanctification. By His grace, He teaches His people to forsake what is dishonorable, walk in repentance, and grow in obedience. Through this ongoing work, He conforms us to the image of Christ, making us vessels fit for honorable use, set apart as holy, useful to the Master, and ready for every good work.

The pursuit of holiness is not optional for the believer. The Lord knows those who are His, and those who are His increasingly bear His likeness.

Every believer should ask: Am I becoming a vessel fit for the Master’s use?

The Presentation of His Truth — Part 1

In 2 Timothy 2:20–22, Paul reminds Timothy that within the visible church there are vessels for honorable use and vessels for dishonorable use. The faithful servant of Christ must understand the field in which he labors and take seriously the pursuit of personal holiness.

God prepares His servants for usefulness through sanctification. Those who desire to be useful to the Master must cleanse themselves from what is dishonorable and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace in fellowship with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart.
