Our History
There is a story passed down through the years that in about 187
1 a young daughter of a miner died on Canyon Creek and her body was brought to Gold Run for burial. It was a stormy day when the family arrived and the grave was not ready so the casket was taken into a combination general store and saloon. Some drunken rowdies made themselves so offensive it incensed the decent miners that they got together during the summer and by their subscriptions and labors built a Union Church for the use of all. In approximately 1929 a Board of Trustees was appointed and that board proceeded to sell the lumber in the church to wreckers. The Gold Run people, thoroughly aroused by this wanton act, went to court, secured an injunction forever stopping such vandalism. When Interstate 80 was proposed for the area the church was once again in danger of being destroyed because it sat where the freeway was to be built. With the funds received from the sale of that property to the state of California the community was able to purchase the land the church now sits on and the building was moved to its new location in 1957. In 2001, after much hard work by Tom & Bunnie Beck, the parcel and buildings were deeded to the congregation as sole owners by the remaining Board of Trustees. Gold Run, CA
