When John the Baptist questioned whether or not Jesus really was the One they'd been looking for?
Jesus didn't just say: "Yes, John...I'm the guy..."
What He did instead?
Was refer John to the word of God.
What does the word say the coming Messiah will do??
Isaiah 35:5-6

"Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened,
And the ears of the deaf shall be unstopped.
Then the lame shall leap like a deer,
And the tongue of the dumb sing.
For waters shall burst forth in the wilderness,
And streams in the desert."

What was the answer Jesus sent John's messengers home with??
Matthew 11:4-6
Jesus answered and said to them, “Go and tell John the things which you hear and see: The blind see and the lame walk; the lepers are cleansed and the deaf hear; the dead are raised up and the poor have the gospel preached to them. And blessed is he who is not offended because of Me.”

In other words?
Jesus says to John: "Don't evaluate My by your present circumstances (sitting in prison)...EVALUATE ME BY THE WORD OF GOD AND MY ACTIONS".

Apparently, John was thinking: "If You're the promised Messiah...and I'm your messenger...why am I still wasting away in prison??!"

And the response he received?
"Blessed is he who is not offended because of Me..."

Jesus wasn't meeting John's expectations...

And the response basically tells John NOT to stumble over Jesus...when Jesus isn't meeting his expectations!

Instead?
Look to the word.
Look to His works.
Trust Him, even when HIS plan, isn't what you expected.
