Scripture: 1 Corinthians 13

Paul in his first letter to the church in Corinth makes it clear that without love, we are nothing but noise. Paul, in helping the church know how to be more effective and not just noisy, also makes it very clear what love is, but also, what love does not do!

Love can be difficult at times, therefore love is to be grounded in the truth, God’s Word.

Paul writes, 1 Cor 13:6 - Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth .

Grounded in the truth, love always perseveres and this is important as we love as Jesus loved, going out and loving, even our enemies.

John 13:35 - By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another

Scripture: Mark 10:32-45

We will continue looking at the character of a disciple of Jesus Christ.

In the Gospel of Mark, Jesus flips the script and points out what true greatness looks like as He said, “whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant”.

James and John ( most likely all all of them ) were looking for positions of honor, sitting on the right and left of Jesus, not thinking about being a servant, but Jesus said, “Not so with you”.

This life of service and what it looks like goes back to the idea of following Jesus, the prime example, as Jesus said, “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” — Mark 10:45
