Go Make Disciples Matthew 28:16-20

16 Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus told them to go. 17 When they saw him, they worshipped him, but some doubted. 18 Jesus came near and spoke to them, “I’ve received all authority in heaven and on earth.

19 Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to obey everything that I’ve commanded you. Look, I myself will be with you every day until the end of this present age.”

In the above scripture we are given the mission of the church. I would like to ask you if you think that is what we are doing.

Jesus said: “Remember, that I am with your always to the end of the age.”

The Holy Spirit 1 Corinthians 12:3-13

3 So I want to make it clear to you that no one says, “Jesus is cursed!” when speaking by God’s Spirit, and no one can say, “Jesus is Lord,” except by the Holy Spirit. 4 There are different spiritual gifts but the same Spirit; 5 and there are different ministries and the same Lord;
6 and there are different activities but the same God who produces all of them in everyone. 7 A demonstration of the Spirit is given to each person for the common good. 8 A word of wisdom is given by the Spirit to one person, a word of wisdom is given by the Spirit to one person, a word of knowledge to another according to the same Spirit.

The scripture for this week helps to understand the work of the Holy Spirit. It helps us to understand the gifts of the Holy Spirit and to understand that we are given the gifts by the Holy Spirt to glorify God and not ourselves.

Meditation for May 17, by Audie Miller, CLM
Acension of Jesus Luke 24:50-53

50 He led them out as far as Bethany, where he lifted his hands and blessed them. 51 As he blessed them, he left them and was taken up to heaven. 52 They worshipped him and returned to Jerusalem overwhelmed with joy. 53 And they were continuously in the temple praising God.

Today’s scripture should make us realize that God has fulfilled his promises. His gospel has gone out to all peoples through the Holy Spirit, who has equipped the church for the mission, and we ask that same Spirit to use us today to bring the gospel to all peoples everywhere.

Wait in patience for God’s Spirit. Wait in longing for the hope to which we are called. God will fill us with Christ’s glorious Spirit and clothe us with power on high.

I Won’t Leave You As Orphans John 14:15-17

15 “If you love me, you will keep my commandments. 16 I will ask the Father, and he will send another Companion, who will be with you forever. 17 This Companion is the Spirit of Truth, whom the world can’t receive because it neither sees him nor recognizes him. You know him, because he lives with you and will be with you. “

In this week’s scripture Jesus explains who will be with us and guide until he returns. Jesus tells us that the Father will send us another Companion who will be with us forever. The Companion Jesus is talking about is the Holy Spirit.

I often feel very sad for those of the world who chose not accept Jesus as their personal Savior and therefore miss the love of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. I pray that all of God’s children chose to come home to the Father by accepting the Son.

Even when we are tested by the refiner’s fire, God brings us to a place of laughter and light on the other side of our trials. The Advocate meets our suffering and heals us in holy love.

The way, the Truth, the Life John 14:5-7 Common Eng. Bible

5 Thomas asked, “Lord, we don’t know where you are going. How can we know the way?”
6 Jesus answered, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. 7 If you have really known me, you will also know the Father. From now on you know him and have seen him.”

This week’s scripture should explain clearly to anyone who has questions who Jesus is and of his importance to our salvation.

God’s faithful love is true, and God's strength is enough. Rest in God’s love and trust in God’s strength, for these are all we need,

7 So Jesus spoke again, “I assure you that I am the gate of the sheep. 8 All who came before me were thieves and outlaws, but the sheep didn’t listen to them. 9 I am the gate. Whoever enters through me will be saved. They will come in and go out and find pasture. 10 The thief enters only to steal, kill, and destroy. I came so that they could have life—indeed, so that they could live life to the fullest.
11 “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.

This week’s scripture makes us aware of how important it is for us to listen for Jesus talking to us at all times. He is the good shepherd, and we will recognize him when he is talking to us. We should remember that he loves all of us equally. So if we hear someone talking to us and they tell us to do anything but to love God, our Heavenly Father with all our heart, mind, and soul, with every fiber of our being and also to love our neighbor as we love ourselves, then this is not the Good Shepherd talking to us. We should not listen to them.

The Good Shepherd anoints our heads with oil, nourishes us with living waters, delivers us from evil, and watches over us day and night. Because of our Shepherd, we shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

God’s Imperishable Seed 1 Peter 1:22-23

22 As you set yourselves apart by your obedience to the truth so that you might have genuine affection for your fellow believers, love each other deeply and earnestly. 23 Do this because you have been given new birth—not from the type of seed that decays but from seed that doesn’t. This seed is God’s life-giving and enduring word.

The scripture today tells us that God wants us to love our neighbors. I think that if we do this many of the problems in the world will disappear. People will be trying to help each other instead of trying to overcome them. If one does this there of course will be people of the world who will criticize those who attempt to love their neighbors unconditionally, but that is a small price to pay for the new birth we received from God.

Jesus appears to Thomas and the disciples John 20:24-29

24 Thomas, the one called Didymus, one of the Twelve, wasn’t with the disciples when Jesus came. 25 The other disciples told him, “We’ve seen the Lord!” But he replied, “Unless I see the nail marks in his hands, put my finger in the wounds left by the nails, and put my hand into his side, I won’t believe.”
26 After eight days his disciples were again in a house and Thomas was with them. Even though the doors were locked, Jesus entered and stood among them. He said, “Peace be with you.”

27 Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here. Look at my hands. Put your hand into my side. No more disbelief. Believe!”
28 Thomas responded to Jesus, “My Lord and my God!” 29 Jesus replied, “Do you believe because you see me? Happy are those who don’t see and yet believe.”

I believe that Thomas represents many people today who try to reduce God and what he has done to something they can understand. In order do this they only accept what is humanly possible. Such a sad way to live, not trusting God enough to believe that nothing is impossible for God to do.

“Peace be with you!” Jesus said to his disciples, both those who saw and believed, and the one who questioned. Today Jesus Christ also bestows his peace and presence upon us: “Peace be with you!”

Meditation for Easter-April 5, 2026 by Audie Miller, CLM
Jesus appears to Mary John 20:11-18

11 Mary stood outside near the tomb, crying. As she cried, she bent down to look into the tomb. 12 She saw two angels dressed in white, seated where the body of Jesus had been, one at the head and one at the foot. 13 The angels asked her, “Woman, why are you crying?” She replied, “They have taken away my Lord, and I don’t know where they’ve put him.”

14 As soon as she had said this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing there, but she didn’t know it was Jesus. 15 Jesus said to her, “Woman, why are you crying? Who are you looking for?” Thinking he was the gardener, she replied, “Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have put him and I will get him.” 16 Jesus said to her, “Mary.” She turned and said to him in Aramaic, “Rabbouni” (which means Teacher).

17 Jesus said to her, “Don’t hold on to me, for I haven’t yet gone up to my Father. Go to my brothers and sisters and tell them, ‘I’m going up to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.’”
18 Mary Magdalene left and announced to the disciples, “I’ve seen the Lord.” Then she told them what he said to her.

Whenever I read this week’s scripture, I wonder how I would have reacted if I were there at the tomb. I would like to think that I would be aware of what was actually happening, but when I am honest with myself, I probably would have reacted in the same manner as Mary.

Mary and the disciples thought that they had lost the One who had brought the true understanding of their Heavenly Father to them, the true meaning of peace in their lives. Their loss was so great that Mary didn’t even recognize Jesus when he was standing there. Just think about how great their joy was when they realized that he was really alive.
Audie Miller, CLM

When we turn away from God, silently complicit, Christ died that we may live. Through Christ, we are forgiven. This is our hope and our good news. It is good news indeed. We are forgiven, even on this night. Amen.
