If ever there is a Sunday that does not require a teaser, it is Easter. Then again, we are looking backward to the resurrection. At the actual experience thousands of years ago, the news was thought to be a tease. When the women reported the empty tomb in Luke's Gospel, the men concluded it was an 'idle tale,' (i.e., a tease.) When Mary encounters the risen Jesus at the 'now empty' tomb, she mistakes him for a gardener, (i.e., a tease.)
Time and time again, the news of resurrection is too unbelievable; too 'out there,' too much of a tease!
I'm going to share a story on Sunday -- a true story -- of a time when I came up against the resurrection. Only this time it wasn't in some antiseptic church service where everyone was dressed in their Sunday best. No this was in real time, in a place of pain and shame, in a place where everyone had just given up. And only then, only after giving up, did we encounter an awesome power that, still today, drops me to my knees in gratitude and hope.
I'll see you Sunday at 6:30 in the Outdoor Worship Center (weather permitting, otherwise in the sanctuary), 8:30, or 10:30.
Also, please note that the final session of the Faith Builders study, "Why Did Jesus Have to Die," will be held at 9:30 in the fellowship hall.
Finally, I hope to see you at Susanna Wesley UMC at 7 p.m., Good Friday evening, for a Service of Tenebrae. And 10:30 Saturday for the Annual Easter Egg Hunt to be held at Bellamy.
Whew! It's a busy weekend.
Blessings,
Pastor Ed
