Breaking Bread: The Heart of Our Faith Walk
(Long Post Sorry but its worth it)
Dear GBC Family,
There is something truly special about hearing laughter fill the fellowship hall, hearing plates and silverware clatter around the room, and smelling all those good home-cooked dishes coming together in one place. If you were with us for our 5th Sunday Potluck, then you know exactly what I mean. And yes, I’ve got to say it, my ribs disappeared so fast I barely had time to admire them myself. I guess that’s one way to know they turned out alright.
I want to personally thank each and every one of you. Whether you brought a side dish, a dessert, a main course, or simply showed up ready to enjoy the time together and lend a hand, thank you. What blessed me most was not just the food on the tables, but the people around them. Seeing our church family gathered together, talking, laughing, and enjoying one another reminded me once again how good God has been to us.
As your pastor, I want you to know how much I love this church family. At Glidden Baptist Church, we often talk about being a faith in action church, and I believe our potluck was a beautiful picture of that. It showed love. It showed fellowship. It showed that there is still a place where people can come together in warmth, kindness, and genuine community.
I keep thinking about Acts 2:42 (NKJV):
> "And they continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers."
That verse gives us such a clear picture of what the church is supposed to be. The early believers stayed grounded in the Word, committed to one another, faithful in prayer, and devoted to the breaking of bread. They didn’t just gather for formality. They shared life. They shared meals. They shared burdens. They shared joy.
That is what I saw at our potluck, and that is what I want us to keep building together.
There is something powerful about sitting down at the table with one another. In Scripture, breaking bread was never just about food. It was about fellowship, peace, and belonging. It was a reminder that we are not walking this journey alone. When we gather around the table, we are reminded that we belong to one another in Christ.
In a world that feels more disconnected than ever, I want to encourage you to keep leaning into what God has called us to be as a church family. Let us continue in unity, love, and the bond of peace. Let us keep making room for one another. Let us keep noticing those who may feel left out, and let us keep inviting them in. Sometimes the ministry starts with something as simple as a meal, a conversation, a smile, or an invitation to sit down together.
I also want to remind you that breaking bread does not stop at the fellowship hall. It carries over into the way we live every day. It shows up when we bear one another’s burdens, when we pray for each other, when we encourage one another, and when we serve side by side. Whether you are part of Women Of Grace, growing through Milkmen to Manhood, joining us for Equipping Hour (Bible Study), serving through Beyond the Prayer or Plates of Grace, helping with the GBC Cleaning Crew, mowing the yard, serving on the Advisory/Leadership Committee or Budget Committee, or helping with outreach, every bit of it matters. Every bit of it strengthens the family of God.
Church family, my encouragement to you is simple: let’s keep going. Let’s keep growing. Let’s keep being steadfast in the apostles’ doctrine, in fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers. Let’s stay tenderhearted toward one another. Let’s keep walking together in love. Let’s keep being the kind of church where people can find grace, truth, help, and hope.
And if you are reading this and looking for a church home, I want you to know there is a place for you here. There is a seat at the table for you. You do not have to have everything figured out before you come. Just come. We would love to welcome you into this church family and walk with you as you grow in Christ.
Thank you again, GBC Family, for making this past potluck such a sweet time of fellowship. More than anything, thank you for being a church that loves deeply and lives out the Gospel in practical ways. I am grateful to serve alongside you, and I’m excited for what the Lord is continuing to do among us.
With love,
Pastor Joel
