NEW Cook County storm assistance announced today, August 19, 2026.

The SBA has opened a separate disaster-loan program for damage from the July 27, 2026 severe storms. This declaration directly includes Cook and Will counties.

Eligible homeowners and renters can apply for up to $500,000 for damaged real estate and up to $100,000 for damaged personal property. Businesses and certain nonprofits can apply for up to $2 million for physical damage, and qualifying small businesses/nonprofits may also seek Economic Injury Disaster Loans.

Deadlines: physical-property applications are due October 19, 2026; economic-injury applications are due May 18, 2027.

There is also a Hazel Crest SBA Disaster Loan Outreach Center at 3601 W. 183rd St., Hazel Crest, opening Friday, August 21 through Friday, September 4. SBA representatives can answer questions and help complete applications. A second center is at the Pullman Branch of the Chicago Public Library.

Important: this new program is specifically for the July 27 storm, so it is different from the July 2–4 SBA program you already applied under. I still do not see a new FEMA Individual Assistance grant or Illinois/Cook County cash-grant application yet for the August 2026 storms.

* Mold remediation & sump pump replacement
* Appliance replacement
* Emergency food distribution

In the aftermath of the recent severe storms, Calvary Baptist Church of Glenwood, in collaboration with municipal leaders and regional relief partners, is mobilizing to provide essential support and resources to residents across the South Suburbs and Northwest Indiana.

Our mission is to foster community resilience through immediate, tangible assistance and long-term recovery efforts.

⚡ POWER RESTORED! ⚡
Great news, the library’s power & WiFi have been restored! 🎉

We’re now working to make sure everything is ready for you, including our computers and network, air conditioning, and other electronic equipment throughout the building. We also need to do some cleaning in the Public areas.

📚 The library will REOPEN Saturday, August 15th at 9:00 AM!
