World Communion Sunday #2 — Many Hands, One Heart! ❤️🌍

From the very first moments of preparation to the final steps of our Meal Packing Event, what a joyful and meaningful experience it was!

People of all ages came together, each serving in different ways and in different places, but all sharing one purpose: to make a difference through love and service.

There was laughter, teamwork, encouragement, and so much joy in every corner! Every helping hand mattered, and every contribution was a beautiful expression of faith in action.

What a wonderful way to celebrate World Communion Sunday—reminding us that although we may serve in different ways, we are united in Christ's love.

A very special thank-you to our amazing Mission Committee for your dedication, leadership, and all the hard work behind the scenes. You made this meaningful ministry possible!

And thank you to everyone who came, served, encouraged, and shared your gifts. What a blessing to be part of this loving community at Glenview UMC!

World Communion Sunday at Glenview UMC 🌍🍞🍷 #1

Today we gathered at Christ’s table with Christians around the world, remembering that although we come from different nations, cultures, languages, and traditions, we are one body in Christ.

During Communion, members of our congregation shared the words of Christ’s table in several languages:

The body of Christ, given for you.
The blood of Christ, given for you.

We heard these words in English, Spanish, French, Korean, Mandarin Chinese, Swahili, and Tagalog—different languages, but the same grace, the same table, and the same Christ.

What a beautiful reminder that Christ’s table is wider than any one congregation, community, or nation. There is a place for all of us.

One table. One body. One hope in Christ.

On the first Sunday in October, United Methodist congregations join Christian churches across the globe in celebrating World Communion Sunday.

World Communion Sunday began as World-Wide Communion Sunday at Shadyside Presbyterian Church in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania in 1933. The Rev. Hugh Thompson Kerr and his congregation sought to demonstrate the interconnectedness of Christian churches, regardless of denomination.

This Sunday, The United Methodist Church celebrates World Communion Sunday with congregations all over the globe. Followers of Jesus Christ in large churches and small, on farms and in cities, in ornate buildings and under tents, gather to receive the bread and cup of Holy Communion.
