Barney Vernon Laird

Funeral services for Barney Vernon Laird will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, February 26, 2026, at Union Hill Baptist Church with Reverend Bruce Austin and Reverend Neil Guidry officiating. Interment will follow at Occupy No 1 Cemetery under the direction of White Oaks Funeral Home, Oakdale.

Visitation will be held at 5:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 25, 2026 at Union Hill Baptist Church.

Barney, 59, of Pitkin, entered eternal rest Monday, February 23, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was born April 22, 1966, in Oakdale, Louisiana to the union of Barney Laird and Ruby Laird. Barney loved to go fishing and work in his garden. He loved his Church family at Union Hill Baptist Church.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Barney Laird and Ruby Strother Laird; and one nephew, Kord Harrelson.

Those left behind to cherish his memory; wife of 10 years, Joann Young Laird of Pitkin; son, Edward Dwayne Laird and unborn children of Pitkin; sister, Tammie Laird of Mora; brother, Floyd Laird of Oakdale; three grandchildren, Kay Lianna Mayo, Christopher Mayo, and Michael Laird; best friends, Neil Guidry and Yolanda Teal; along with a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

Pallbearers honored to serve will be Kenny Rister, Kevin Rister, Edward Laird, and Jerry Johnson.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Toni Emmons at Compassionate Hospice Care
