Faith,
Have you ever experienced this?
You left a static image on your computer screen—maybe a logo or a frozen picture—and when you finally changed the screen, the image was still faintly "burned" into the display. To prevent that, tech companies created screen savers—those constantly moving images that were designed to keep the screen protected. The constant movement served a purpose.
With that in mind, I want us to visit the second of the Three L’s that define what it means to be a disciple-making church:
As a disciple-making church, we will TOGETHER:
LOVE God by having a personal relationship with Jesus,
LIVE like Jesus by being consistently transformed by Him, and
LEAD others to Jesus, multiplying disciples who transform our community.
LIVE.
Much like the technology I just described, God has a plan for your life, and it’s not for you to be static in your walk with Jesus. Instead, we are called to be consistently changing—being transformed into the image of Jesus.
As disciple-makers, we must regularly examine our lives, inviting Christ to reshape us so that bad habits or sinful tendencies don’t get “burned” into our character. Instead, we welcome the power of the Holy Spirit to change us.
And just like the screen saver had a purpose, the Holy Spirit’s work in us has one too: to mold us into the likeness of Jesus.
Paul wrote this in 2 Corinthians 3:18:
“And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.”
Notice two important phrases here:
“Being transformed” — This is an ongoing process. We never arrive. It’s daily, sometimes moment by moment. Just like those endless, flowing screen savers, we are constantly in motion as God shapes us.
“Into His image” — Jesus is the goal. Everything we do in discipleship points toward becoming more like Him—His character, His love, His devotion, His compassion, and so much more. Why? Because Jesus is the center of our faith. It should be the natural desire of every disciple to emulate Jesus more and more each day.
So let’s continue to LIVE transformed lives.
Is there something today that you need to give to the Lord so He can redeem it?
Are you stuck in areas of life where bad habits or attitudes feel “burned” into who you are?
Ask Jesus to help you—to reshape you from the inside out—to be more like Him every day.
